Tennessee vs Florida Game 1 Thread - 6:30

Sorry but that's silly, 9 ** runs is enough. If the pitching can't hold that, then you think the offense tacking on some more is going to help. Like I said, the evidence shows they would blow that too. So a 7 run lead isn't enough but you think the pitching staff would magically get their sh** together if the offense added a few more?

Ridiculous to put any of this blame on the offense.

Where did I blame the offense? I said it was obvious the pitching blew it/has to be better. I think anyone that knows anything about baseball gets that. The statement about tacking on is still true too.

You are painting with a pretty broad brush there. There are plenty of good arms that want the ball, but are not being used the right way. It’s not about the arms and much as it is mismanagement.

In your post; you put some blame on the offense for not "tacking on" and not responding to the Gators scoring. You can say you aren't blaming them but the very fact you bring it up shows you are trying to put some on them.

And to that I say again, why should they trust the pitching staff if they can't hold a 7 run lead? I say again, even if they "tack on", why should the offense have any faith they can keep that lead. If you don't trust your pitching, it's very hard to get motivated to keep scoring. It's like blaming the offense in football for not responding with more points when you lose 60-53.

Pitching has been the strength of the team until the last 3 weeks, and suddenly they have fallen apart. It is really bad when Florida out pitches you. They need to get it together right away, or they won't get very far the remainder of the season. Tomorrow's Florida pitcher has a 7.02 ERA, so its time to take advantage of that. GBO.

Baseball - usually hitting gets better and pitching gets exposed as Season goes on . I believe there’s a lot of things that attribute. plate appearances , weather and pitching fatigue. ... we can still win the series . But this team is going to have to grow up and have a big time serious gut check. This really stinks and I hate it. But we can bounce back. !!! These last 2 have been Big pills to shallow

Please put the arms out there that can Locate and has more than one pitch to get hitters out on. I may not be A pro , but I can see the difference from pitching than throwing. In my opinion, we have several arms capable of getting outs . To be fair to RJ, not sure he has been groomed to be in that spot tonight. Start the inning maybe but not 2 on with 0 outs. That’s RW ‘s spot. IMO ...9-3 lead. I would have started one of my RHP. Hundley , Sewell , Wallace , Silseth , Heflin & Pleasant’s would be my 7 & 8 inning guys. RJ doesn’t need to be brought in in the middle of the inning with runners on. Not enough time on the mound. Walsh , nelly and Shultz would be my closers. And going into Sunday all hands on deck. Just me.

Good post. I agree and I would go with Hunley or Heflin over the others for the middle or long relief. They are more experienced and the others you listed tend to walk too many hitters. As I said in an earlier post, we have the arms, but they are being mismanaged.

Everyone has been given an opportunity. It’s not being mismanaged. The pitching staff is struggling right now to get outs . Starters and the pen. Managers look great when the pen gets outs when they don’t get outs they don’t look great.

Just remember to keep your cup on when your a Tennessee fan in ANY sport. Basketball gave us a kick in the nutz, now baseball is doing the same. As for football, we've been getting kicked for 12 years. Amazing how a University with our resources can't put championship teams on the field or court.

Championship level teams? Heck how about barely competent teams? I’ll love UT athletics until the day I die. That being said we are a joke in pretty much any sport. It’s ridiculous with the resources we have.

Meanwhile Stupid ass vandy is ranked #1

I know where you're coming from. On top of that UGA's football recruiting is bama-like. Appears they're going to be set for a long, long run of being in the national title mix. Even on the basketball side, they're recruiting lights out. Last I checked, they're #7 in the country with the #1 prospect in the country on board. We're hoping our 4 star pans out and can run the point and the two other project in our class will maybe only need one year to develop vs 2 or 3 years. To your point, Vandy will probably win the national championship while we miss Hoover. Would be poetic UT karma.

Just frustrating to see opponents racing on while we seem stuck in neutral just waiting for tiny bits of success to rejoice over all the while continuing to wear the Tenn Cup for what we BV fans know is sure to come. I've used the analogy repeatedly, but damned if it isn't spot on. We're the Charlie Browns of college sports trying to kick the damned football and Lucy will always...always... pull it at the last minute. We always seem to end up on our backs pissed at ourselves for actually believing...again.
