Neo,
What if tee was truly interested. However he is currently making $300k....and say butch tells him that we can only pay him $250k here. Wouldn't u fly back to LA and say no thanks?

Well, there's a big difference in the cost of living between L.A. and Knoxville. I copied the following statement from the website bestplaces.net...........

"A salary of $300,000 in Los Angeles, California could decrease to $175,070 in Knoxville, Tennessee."

Yes, he helped win us a NC championship. I was a huge fan. Thanks for the memories

But noow let's fast forward to today...no longer a huge fan. Thanks for screwing us in front of the whole nation jackass.

Guy is either a moron or played us for a raise.

First thing he don't fly all the way here, under these circumstances, with your family, only to turn down the job.

Second don't say you gave your word to Kiffin (the man who screwed us) and that you didn't want to break your promise to "those" kids when anyone following you knows you walked out on Kentucky and broke your word there.

You had three options.

1) Politely decline and say you are happy there and never travel here in the first place

2) Take the job here and help us right this ship and get things going again.

3) Travel here, make up a lie as an excuse to stay there, and let the whole world know Kiffin got us again and even our guy who won the NC doesn't want to be here.

You chose option 3 and for that I say thanks for the memories Benedict Arnold.

^^^Teenage Drama Queen. This reminds me why I was so happy when my last daughter finally moved out.

No....$250k in Ktown is worth more than $300k in LA.

LA has a state income tax
Ktown does not

LA has a terribly high cost of living
Ktown does not (especially in surrounding ETN)

LA has a high crime rate
Ktown does not

He didn't come here b/c LA is a cultural melting pot and Ktown is anything but. Don't get me wrong I love Ktown and ETN in general and I traveled on business to LA this past May....and hated it.

You seem reasonable.

Do you honestly believe he didn't know the numbers ahead of time?

If he didn't then he needed to go public and say "I was offered left and for my fmaily I could not afford to take the job" and yes it would hang CBJ out to dry but hell if that is the case and he was offered less than CBJ was willing to hang him out to dry...which has happened. His promise to kids statement has flaws.

Either way, he heaped some bad PR on himself.

Tee did not know the exact offer he'd get ahead of time. Tee also wanted to be here very much as he has obvious ties and affection for the program. Tee knew a ballpark of what he would be offered and what he actually was offered when the dust settled was lower than that, so instead of coming out and saying UT, his alma mater low balled him, he took the high road and stayed in his current situation.

BTW his current situation is coaching two all american WR who BOTH return next year. One of those just won best WR in the country this year. He also has been an integral part in putting together this recruiting class for USC. His wife likes their lifestyle out there and we had to offer him significantly more than the 300k a year he's making at USC and we didn't do that. So shut your damn mouth especially not having a damn clue what you're talking about.

Tee Martin is an ABSOLUTE VFL and whoever says otherwise can find their way to the ignore list IMO. Yes I'm sad we didn't get him of course, but it wasn't b/c Tee doesn't love this program or b/c he didn't want to be here. Period.

I'm not mad at tee, don't blame him for staying. However, he could have handled it in a way that didn't make us look so second rate like a bunch of other coaches have. He had to of known what they were offering monetary wise before he came. I hope he didn't use this as a free ride to see his kid. Oh well jmo. Like I said not mad at him, just tired of seeing us get turned down by so many first choices over the last few years; didn't need a spectacle like this. Go Vols and on to the next coach!

P.S. Benedict Arnold is to strong of a comparison.

Another scenario; Tee's wife wasn't interested but he wanted to try and convince her somehow. So when we offered to fly he and his family out here, he accepted the free trip. They came out, she still wasn't convinced, so they fly back home and he declines. Money may not have been that off since cost of living is cheaper in Knox than Cal.

Then say this "I thank UT so much for the opportunity but with the recent move from Kentucky to here that my family is just now getting adjusted to I do not want to uproot my family again so soon. I thank the University of TN so much for thinking of me and wish them the best of luck. Go Vols!"

Not the BS line he kicked out.

And yes, the above statement I just wrote would have gotten him out of hot water. We would have understood.
