Texas A&M coming to the SEC????

No one from Carolina will be leaving until that conference itself falls apart

Some here have suggested that we might have a shot with NC State with a sweet enough offer. I have no idea whether that's true or not, but theoretically it makes some sense (the way TA&M moving here makes some sense).

If I was the SEC commissioner, I would love to get into a major NC market.

I don't see the NC schools splitting up, same for the Oklahoma's. My guess would be Clemson to join A&M.

NC St loves the close ties they have with duke and unc, as well as how both it and the conference itself make NC St look academically...that idea seems to often come from some misunderstanding that NC St is actually the neglected or despised red headed step child of the area

I'm starting to wonder, though, USCe's reaction to this, since Ga tech and FsU are pretty much no goes based on uga's and uf's reactions

This has legs now? Could it finally all be going down? Quite frankly, I'm just ready to get this over with.

Saw something about some board meeting or something for aTm around like the 23rd of the month

If A&M comes to the sec, they will be by themselves.

Oklahoma and okie lite wouldn't, none of the other texas schools would, none of the north carolina schools would, florida state and georgia tech couldn't buy their way into the conference, and clemson and virginia tech are sitting pretty along with fsu as the cream of their own conference as is.

TAMU is the only school out there who could join the sec in a mutually beneficial situation.

I saw that as well in a report and in that same report, there was a quick mention that if A&M joins the SEC, the SEC would then set it's sights on getting FSU to join the SEC. I'll try to find the link.

I can't imagine a single scenario in which florida would approve fsu joining, moreover, fsu is already the best program in their own conference. Can't see why they would make the jump only to wind up fifth best.

No offense True, but NC State is the equivalent to aTm in North Carolina. IMO State would be an SEC school in a second, given the opportunity. It would give them a leg up in recruiting against unc, which they would love. The SEC would be a dream come true for NC State

Not sure what you were worried about offending me with there

Milo put it best though, short and sweet, none of the north Carolina schools are coming or want to

.....also, I have to ask, how exactly would joining the SEC help NC St get a leg up recruiting? They're still going to - if your description of them is correct - be little brother in that state in
football and the third son in basketball. Slapping an SEC instead of an ACC logo on them won't make recruits view them any differently

Mizzou I might buy, but I could see them being an equally good or better fit in the big ten.

They could go either way; there's possibly some issue about how the big
10 left them pretty much at the alter / out in the cold to fend off the wolves.....(though they'd probably take the first post-big 12 invite they get)

Still, being able to get into that stl and KC markets....I imagine that to be quite good for the conference

I doubt USCe carries as big of a stick as Georgia or Florida when it comes to things like this.

Whoever comes with A&M they will have to bring a big TV market with them, that leaves out Clemson and Va Tech. UF would never let FSU in and UGA wouldn't let Ga Tech in. I think both carry enough juice to block those moves. Who does that leave? Mabey a school no one is even thinking about, how about a Houston or USF?

Va Tech has a huge share of the DC market. If we're looking to balance out A&M with a team from the East, they make as much sense as anyone.

This is disappointing. We should've added Nebraska and Clemson or Virginia Tech. A&M sucks. Expansion sucks.

The DC market could give a rats a** about college football. I grew up in the shadow of Lane Stadium, in the 80's you could walk up to the gate on game day and get in for free. It wasn't until the Vick years all of the "Long time all my life Tech fans came out of the wood work. As soon as they fall off for a few years (happens to every program) you'll be able to shoot a shotgun inside Lane without worry.

Everyone will break out the old UVA and UT gear just like before.

It doesn't matter how many people show up at the stadium. What matters is that Va Tech has a following in the DC market. UVA or Maryland would accomplish the same thing, but recent history shows Va Tech is more valuable.

Oklahoma won't likely be able to leave without bringing OK State with them. Plus, why would we want to add more "super-power" teams to the conference? That would make it near impossible for an SEC team to go undefeated and play in the BCS NCG.

We need teams that improve TV market ratings, but don't increase the competition level to an outrageous degree. Some people want OU, Miami, FSU, and other such teams in the SEC. Ridiculous. Bring in new market teams, but not teams that will make the NC unwinnable.

North Carolina, Clemson, Missouri, Texas A&M, Baylor, NC State, and such are the kinda teams we need to add. Oklahoma and A&M by themselves wouldn't be too bad, but Oklahoma + other super-powers will spell doom for SEC BCS dominance. NO ONE will escape the SEC schedule without one or maybe two losses almost every year.

With a schedule like that the SEC champion could have 1 or 2 losses and STILL be in the national title game...Adding those teams only pumps up the strength of schedule for everybody and all but gaurantees the SEC champ in the title game...I say bring em on!
