That means no Tennessee Alabama rivalry
Possibility of a return game at A&M, so recruit can have a homecoming of sorts/play in front of a home crowd.
With 7 team divisions, 8 conference games, and 2 permanent games, you would play the same 8 teams each year.Unless they switch back to two required cross divisional games.....with 7 teams in each division, they're going to have to restructure the 8 conference game system unless they really just want only 1 changing west-east matchup each year (meaning....with home & homes, what 10-12 years for cross-division at each site?)

You are way off on this one.
The Va Tech explosion over the last 15 years has been HUGE. Also keep in mind that over the course of this outstanding run for the Hokies, UVA has been abysmal. There is now an entire generation of Virginians who only know/care about one football program. Sure there are some hold outs that still support the Cavs, but it is a very, very small minority.
I can remember going to Hokie games in the early 90s like you are talking about and walking in no problem at half time. Those days are long gone.
Add to it that academic standards are through the roof thanks to the success of the football program and increased applicants, and Va Tech is real force in that market.
it's really overly complicated. by having a team in the state recruits know they will play near home at least every other year and it creates new fans for the SEC. are they going to start dominating texas for recruits? nope. but i'm sure it will open it up more than currently.
I agree. Add Texas A&M and Va Teach and no one has to move divisions. Plus it adds a nice geographical UT/VT rivalry. I think the talk about a 16 team league is crazy. The SEC is already the best conference in the nation, why do we want to make it that much harder to win the conference? Also, it would be like 10 years between some of the cross-divisional games.
