Texas A&M coming to the SEC????

I doubt USCe carries as big of a stick as Georgia or Florida when it comes to things like this.

It's more the problem of a current member having an issue as opposed to which member it actually is

You don't want to cause unrest among conference members about how they are run/being treated....look over west to see how that ends up going

With a schedule like that the SEC champion could have 1 or 2 losses and STILL be in the national title game...Adding those teams only pumps up the strength of schedule for everybody and all but gaurantees the SEC champ in the title game...I say bring em on!

Having tougher opponents doesn't mean a 2 loss team gets a pass to count as an underrated or 1 loss team....

The DC market could give a rats a** about college football. I grew up in the shadow of Lane Stadium, in the 80's you could walk up to the gate on game day and get in for free. It wasn't until the Vick years all of the "Long time all my life Tech fans came out of the wood work. As soon as they fall off for a few years (happens to every program) you'll be able to shoot a shotgun inside Lane without worry.

Everyone will break out the old UVA and UT gear just like before.

False. The DC market includes NoVa, which has loads of recent Tech graduates who started getting into football during the Vick years. They have been solid enough for long enough to have an actual following.

The last line is probably the most asinine thing I've ever read in my life.

Whoever comes with A&M they will have to bring a big TV market with them, that leaves out Clemson and Va Tech. UF would never let FSU in and UGA wouldn't let Ga Tech in. I think both carry enough juice to block those moves. Who does that leave? Mabey a school no one is even thinking about, how about a Houston or USF?

A&M pretty much opens up Houston iirc, not sure why bringing in a smaller school that probably holds even less weight in the area helps at all

It doesn't matter how many people show up at the stadium. What matters is that Va Tech has a following in the DC market. UVA or Maryland would accomplish the same thing, but recent history shows Va Tech is more valuable.

Trust me the DC market dosen't care about college football. It's a pro town all the way, they might pay attention to Va Tech now while they are winning but that's it.

I think your assessment of what a TV market actually includes is horribly misconstrued.

I wouldn't mind Mizzou. There's some smoke about them as well.

I am all for Mizzou. Two major media markets and decent basketball. And the league would finally have a decent team that wears black.

And you lived there how long??? How many Va Tech grads do you know?? 4 years prior to their NC game run you saw more UVA and UT gear around Blacksburg than you did VT. 10 years prior you couldn't find a VT game on TV except when they played UVA or WVU. That's a heck of alot of tradition there...:lolabove:

I've lived in Roanoke most of my life.

Most of my high school friends go to one of the two big state schools. My girlfriend is a recent Tech graduate. I'm not arguing that their fanbase was nonexistent before. I'm not arguing that their tradition isn't weak. I'm arguing the fact that it clearly appears you haven't been to the state in at least 15 years, because most of the graduates from Tech grew up watching Vick and feel like they have a legitimate connection to the team.

The fanbase is larger and more electric now and has been growing for more than a decade. It's not going to fizzle out as soon as they have one bad year. It's expanded as far south as Charlotte and as far north as Maryland.

Virginia is as much of a UVa state as Tennessee is a Vanderbilt state. That's not changing, because UVa will likely never field a legitimately competitive football team again- they're too into academics.

Just spit balling about Houston and USF. The Houston market is like the 3rd largest in the country and USF puts more focus on south Florida both would rise rather quickly with the attention given them by the SEC.

Trust me I'd love to see FSU, OK or Clemson come in but just don't think it's a reality.

I'll give you that I've been gone for over 20 years but all of my family still live there and with some being VT grads. I think you are under estimating UVA and over estimating the gourde, he kind of reminds me of CPF. I really think you will see a fall off in the next 2 to 3 years, my god they lost to JMU last year...

You are way off on this one.

The Va Tech explosion over the last 15 years has been HUGE. Also keep in mind that over the course of this outstanding run for the Hokies, UVA has been abysmal. There is now an entire generation of Virginians who only know/care about one football program. Sure there are some hold outs that still support the Cavs, but it is a very, very small minority.

I can remember going to Hokie games in the early 90s like you are talking about and walking in no problem at half time. Those days are long gone.

Add to it that academic standards are through the roof thanks to the success of the football program and increased applicants, and Va Tech is real force in that market.

Mizzou I might buy, but I could see them being an equally good or better fit in the big ten.

from all reports i read, the SEC is looking to get a school from the East. If they were to get a school from the west, either Alabama/Auburn or OleMiss/MissState would have to go to the other division.

that or push someone west, pull two east

Houston???? they cant even get an invite to the Big12. zero chance they get one to the SEC.

Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
NC State
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Virginia Tech

Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
LSU
Miss State
Missouri, Oklahoma or Oklahoma State
Ole Miss
Texas A&M

Or, just throw out Vanderbilt. Add A&M to the West and push Auburn to the east.

???

Would Nebraska not be better for the SEC than A&M? Or am I missing something?

Nebraska wouldnt bring as much to the table as A&M. Nebraska is good in football and nothing else. A&M is good in every sport they offer minus volleyball right now. A&M brings more heads to the TV then Nebraska, but Nebraska has a bigger "national" pull.

the SEC wouldnt split up Auburn/Alabama and Okie State wouldnt get an SEC invitie if big brother doesnt come along.

Also, why do people think adding aTm is going to help Tennessee recruit Texas? Can someone explain the logic behind this?
