Texas A&M/SEC megamerge thread extravaganza

The part I don't understand is if you want to get back at Texas for an unfair advantage the school thinks they have, wouldn't the best way to do that be defeating them on the field? If A&M moves to the SEC, they may not even play them every year.

You don't think our actions are not hurting them currently?

How are they not? Nothing points out more obviously that they are a second rate program than their TV contract situation. They aren't even in the SEC's geographical footprint, and bring very little more than a headache to the conference. They want all the good that comes with being in the SEC but have very little to offer in return.

the SEC is not accepting a&m into the league as an act of charity.

they are accepting a&m because a&m's addition to the league will make everyone in the league a lot more money.

Besides championship-caliber teams in several sports? A preseason top 10 football ranking? Following your logic, everyone is a second rate program in the Big XII but Texas.

A&M's also in the geographic footprint just as much as Arkansas is. Why not complain about that?

But how does the new TV network hurt A&M competitively? Texas already gets basically every single player out of your state that they want. They have junior day, they offer 25 guys, they get 25 commitments. They can't dominate Texas recruiting any more than they already do. So why does the money mater, other than as a symbol of how everybody in the conference is an also-ran?

How would you feel if Bama signed a $300 million dollar contract for The Bama Network. The contract stipulates that if the SEC decides to have a network Bama can't participate. Further, once Espn recoups, Bama gets to keep 70% of the revenue. What if all the SEC teams agreed that Bama could show 1 OOC game, and as soon as they read the new espn agreement, Bama asks Tennessee to let the UT Bama game be on the Bama Network(as Texas did to TT last week).

Even better, what if ESPN allowed folks from The Bama Network to have access to all those espn recruiting showcases they put on? How would you feel if the top recruits in the country were all tuning into the TBN to watch exclusive interviews of themselves?

My only question for the Aggies.... what took you so long? GBO!

Didn't you guarantee us this would be announced by today? Oh, and are you still leaving when we finish with a top 15 class?

You complain about being cast in a negative light, but what do you really expect? You get your feelings hurt about Texas having more media clout than you do, act as if your hand has been forced by the LHN, and then go around the country essentially begging for a handout from
the best football conference in the
nation? How are people really going to
see that in a positive way?
Very well said. I wish the NCAA would tell Texas to stick the LHN up their azz, and keep the big 12 the way it is. It is bull shiz that they are allowed to have ANYTHING that gives them a competitive advantage. Keep everything the same, and F*** Texas.

I certainly hope Tennessee wouldn't just run away from them.

Either way, it's not the same. Bama doesn't get everyone they want in the south.

I don't blame TAMU one bit for wanting to jump ship. If that were our beloved Vols and they were put in a similar situation, I'd be begging to leave because obviously the conference doesn't care. Plus it's a no brainer, SEC football is King.

Tennessee will never be put in this kind of situation, and if they ever were, would be snatched up in a heartbeat by another powerful BCS conference.

I'd like to think the minute it was proposed UT officials, and from every other SEC school, and the SEC office would kindly tell Bama that they can go independent and do whatever they like.

I don't perceive that to be running away, not at all.

Bama also didn't start the whole deal off getting an uneven slice of the pie. It's easily understandable why A&M would want out.

It's also about the Horns belief that they're better than everyone in the world.

If you don't think Texas has intentions of going independent, you're blind. This is a way for them to say "whelp, it wasn't our fault!"

I don't mind A&M trying to get out. I just don't like them whining about how they're being treated unfairly.

They get less than Texas because they're inferior to Texas.

Do you deserve less because you're inferior to Bama? How bout Florida?

See how it goes? BTW, I'll ask again, have you compared us to t.u. as of late across the board athletically?

If you are referencing my post, I understand that what you're saying is likely true. My question is who cares whose fault it is? The Aggies could have left last year and The Sips could've gone independent last year. Nebraska and Colorado didn't wait around to see what happened to KSU, and nobody outside of the Big 12-2 cares about who is at fault for the demise of the conference.

When the LHN came about why didn't the whole lot of you simply band together and say that dog won't hunt?

As someone else pointed out earlier, LHN isn't going to hurt the other schools in recruiting because TX basically already takes whatever they want as far as in-state recruits go, and everyone else fights over the scraps. It's been that way for years, and LHN doesn't affect that at all.

I'm not saying Texas is superior based on a couple seasons. They're simply the premier program in Texas, and A&M leaving won't change that.

When is the last time aTm finished in the top 5 in football?

Its only about football. Gotcha. Not equal revenue sharing. Not putting high school games on tv. Not forcing another in-conference school to purchase the LHN to watch their game. Just football. Seen the rankings? Checked theirs? Your own? Just football. Right. Gotcha.

Some of you are so one dimensional it would be comical, if it wasn't so damn sad.

Enough of this nonsense. You along with everyone else knows that football is the money making rudder that steers the ship of college athletics. All the other sports are really just along for the ride except for a VERY few cases.

What part of $300 million bucks unevenly distributed with all of those other stipulations I mentioned do you not understand. Of course, if you'd like to watch aTm btfo the sips in all the major sports again this year, feel free to subscribe. Espn would surely appreciate someone watching it.

There are two major sports.
