Texas A&M/SEC megamerge thread extravaganza

As someone else pointed out earlier, LHN isn't going to hurt the other schools in recruiting because TX basically already takes whatever they want as far as in-state recruits go, and everyone else fights over the scraps. It's been that way for years, and LHN doesn't affect that at all.

If I say yes to your premise that they get whoever they want, then why give them any more advantages? LHN will be part of national cable packages, not only will they be able to get the top Texas players, but they are in the homes of the top players from all over the country.

Rather than take 20 Texas kids why not take the 10 top players in Texas and the top 10 players in the rest of the country?

It's also about the Horns belief that they're better than everyone in the world.

I went to my first A&M/Texas football game in November 1975...even back then I came away with the realization Longhorns are stuck on themselves. It's only gotten worse over the past ten years given their success. (Mack Brown should be thanking Vince Young everyday for the rest of his life...but that's another topic).

Yesterday as I was on my way to work I was listening to a comment by Heather on the Sport's Animal here in the Knoxville area. I had to laugh when she said 'the University of Texas is just a bunch of prima donnas...no one would want to be in their conference.' If someone like Heather gets it what does that tell you about a lot of folks who follow college football? People know what's really going on in Austin. And even those who don't today will know someday.

What part of $300 million bucks unevenly distributed with all of those other stipulations I mentioned do you not understand. Of course, if you'd like to watch aTm btfo the sips in all the major sports again this year, feel free to subscribe. Espn would surely appreciate someone watching it.

I get it, but Texas now has the Longhorn network because they're the main event in one of the most football hungry markets in America. You keep asserting that aTm's hand has been forced into looking for another conference, but it hasn't. You also have the option of knowing your role as second rate to Texas like the other schools in the Big XII are doing.

Define currently. Last year? That's what you're going by? One year? Or was A&M better than UT in basketball two years ago?

Lol at Heather Harrington "getting it". She's from Texas, but not Austin, so I'd be willing to bet she has far from an impartial opinion on this subject.

Won't let me link. Check out the A&M Scout site(LHN Advertisement thread). Banner ads for the LHN paid for by ESPN have shown up on the Aggies site which is owned by fox.

The length that Texas and Espn will go to humiliate A&M...it is kinda funny though.

Its only about football. Gotcha. Not equal revenue sharing. Not putting high school games on tv. Not forcing another in-conference school to purchase the LHN to watch their game. Just football. Seen the rankings? Checked theirs? Your own? Just football. Right. Gotcha.

Some of you are so one dimensional it would be comical, if it wasn't so damn sad.

Why do the high school games matter? Texas already gets everyone they want. They could have $600 million in extra revenue and it wouldn't affect the competitive balance at all.

This is about A&M being embarrassed about being the little brother. That's it. The money doesn't mean anything tangible on the field; it's just a symbol.

The big head-scratcher to me is why Oklahoma is willing to just bend and submit and be one of Texas's bridesmaids.

Maybe they don't have the little brother complex that aTm does, recognize that this doesn't change anything for them from a competitive standpoint, and simply prefer to do their talking on the field in October.

Or maybe they are as happy as Texas with the relatively easy path to a BCS game allowed when they went to a ten team conference w/o a CCG.

In A&M's defense, if you look back when Arkansas decided to move to the SEC, it's been a good decision for the Razorbacks. A&M is thinking the same thing for their program.

It's interesting about Oklahoma if they move. The big 9 as they will be, will be pretty weak without Nebraska, Colorado, now A&M. Oklahoma is really only competing with Texas for the championship. They may want to jump ship too. But the SEC is so tough if that happens.

showing high school games is an unfair advantage even if texas gets every single recruit they pursue.

ou's president or ad said, this is his public stance at least, that they plan on remaining in the big xii because that currently still gives them the best shot at making the a bcs bowl or earning a spot in the nc game.

This is about A&M being embarrassed about being the little brother.

As much as it pains me to say this, I somewhat agree with that statement. Look, there was a period of time, and it wasn't that long ago, when A&M kicked Texas' arse up and down the field. That all changed when the Tobacco Road Snake Oil Salesman (aka Mack Brown) came to Austin, combined with some really stupid actions on the part of A&M (it pains me to acknowledge that Coach Fran spent time in C.S.).

Bottom line...winning cures alot of ills...one of them being insecurity (which ironically is a self-generated emotion).

We quickly forget that last year we were 3-3 with nowhere to go before a wide receiver stepped into the QB role...and we win 6 in a row.

We quickly forget it wasn't that long ago when we were the doormat in men's basketball until we hired Billy Gillespie...and since then we've put together five or six years in a row of twenty win seasons.

As bad as Men's basketball was, our Women's team was even worse. We took out Baylor, who took out UCONN, on our way to the title.

Pat Henry leaves LSU and leads the A&M Men and Women's track teams to three consecutive NCAA titles.

This past June, our athletic program finished 8th in the nation overall. Texas finished 12th. Amazing how they don't bring that up.

All I can say is this smack talk just makes Aggies look stupid. I don't give a flip how much criticism we get. Just go out and win...which will shut up our 'Big Brother,'...as well as all of his cronies.

What's the time table for the official announcement? I've read conflicting reports. My guess would be before the season starts.

I don't understand the stuff about Texas allegedly wanting to be an independent. Why?

I assume they could swing it in football, but what about all the other sports?

You can be independent in football while your other sports compete in a conference. Notre Dame plays everything but football in the Big East. Same goes for BYU in the WCC. Hawaii is going to start playing football in the Mountain West but will compete in the Big West in all the others.

I'm sure there are several conferences that would gladly take Texas in everything except football.

I think that A&M's shadow problem is actually something that cannot be resolved on the field. However, I do think that A&M, and their Trustees are handling this in the most unprofessional fashion. If I were the Big XII Committee, and I were to see that A&M was going to the media with their complaints, and threatening to jump ship, I would see to it that they were gone regardless of whether the hoped to separate or not. I understand why TAMU Wants out, and I support it, but this is being handled very, very poorly.

What if you were Texas A n M and found out, after the fact, that Dan Beebe and Texas were not being truthful a year ago? That has been alleged.

If the Big 12 went bust where would Texas basketball go? The PAC 10? It seems second-rate for that conference to have a different configuration for football than the other sports.

Don't know what anyone else on this board thinks, but in anticipation what I think is coming.... "Welcome my friend to the SEC and get prepared to be bite in the arse by Smokey"

But it doesn't matter if you used to beat them regularly in football. The other sports don't mean enough to matter. Big brother sucks all the oxygen out of the room and gets all the attention regardless of when and whether he deserves it, and that's understandably infuriating to little brother. Multiply that times the actual cultural divide between Austin and College Station and it's no wonder A&M is tired of this relationship. The Aggies are sick of being Jan Brady.

But man. Throwing yourself into the meat grinder of the SEC West sure seems like cutting your own nose off to be rid of them.
