Texas A&M/SEC megamerge thread extravaganza

I dunno about you but thats is about the dumbest s*it I have ever heard have you guys lost it? Talk about loading one side so we can play Bama every year? The hell with that and if our Ad's and Presidents have any sense they wouldn't go for that either.

You must forget that the SEC used to be 10 teams, one division. Everyone plays everyone. It's special to win the SEC for a reason.

So let me get this straight everyone wants

Florida
Tennessee
Bama
Georgia
Auburn
Kentucky
SC In the same division while th West is

Ark
A&M
Lsu
Mizzou
Vandy
Ole miss
Miss ST I dunno about you but thats is about the dumbest s*it I have ever heard have you guys lost it? Talk about loading one side so we can play Bama every year? The hell with that and if our Ad's and Presidents have any sense they wouldn't go for that either.

then perhaps you'd like the "ole miss or miss st to the east" option

I see the Arkansas argument, they have a great coach and some very good players as for USCe, thier banner year included 5 losses, they are still a doormat program as far as I'm concerned, one or two years being relevant means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

That's true with SC, but Spurrier is the reason for that and only because he started getting better players and he's a good coach. I don't like him at all, but I give him credit for being a good coach. I admit, I love to see him throw that visor in the dirt after getting whacked. Bam! But he has given SCe some confidence that they can compete, where Lou Holtz failed. I think OKlahoma should move but they have it easier to win their conference than they would in the SEC.

would be great

don't think we can get UNC, but those other 3 alone would all be big grabs

Replace UNC with West Virginia. For some reason, I really like the thought of adding WVU and VT to the East. Makes a lot of sense, especially considering both are new markets.

UNC will never leave the ACC, IMO.

In order for A&M to become an SEC member, 9 of the 12 university presidents would need to vote their approval......not guaranteed yet.

If the vote was taken at this moment, they're short. Two schools lobbying HARD against it.

Too bad nobody is considering basketball in this expansion, all about money, football=money.

probably right - does anyone happen to know how much of the money in the deal is for football and how much for bball - are we talking 70-30, 80-20, 90-10?

How dumb do you think the league commish and sec presidents are?

Are we including our own UT presidents in the sample size?

Come to think of it, how bright was it to agree to a 15-year deal in the first place?

The SEC deal is already undervalued when you compare it to the contracts that have been made since then.

It's on an official university press release. This will start a chain reaction. Really going to be fun seeing who will follow and where they all land. Great move by A&M and the SEC.

Would be good too, but I like UNC better, it's a long shot but why not try

If we're talking a 16 team SEC, adding aTm, Mizzou, WVU, and VT would greatly enhance the SEC's legitimacy in basketball, especially Mizzou and WVU.

the rest of his quote just says he (the former president) is just speaking out of anticipation.

that and he has no knowledge of what exactly is in ESPN's deal

...really though, something is not "debunked" because one guy writes it is. You need to wait for some more sources before you can really deem it as such

Well you must forget that this isn't 10 teams playing each other this alignment is set up to screw the teams in the east vs a soft ass west compared to the east. If you can't see that your F'n blind. 7 teams one side, 7 teams other side just so happens that everyone wants the East loaded with the weaker non traditional powerhouses in the West.East will be so beat up they wont be able to field a decent team. And for that matter Everyone won't play everyone. All the east teams will have to play each other along with 3 form the other division. Thats 10 conference games and 2 non-conference. Now say if your in the East you have to play everyone of theses power schools in Fla , Bama, Aub, Ga,SC and Tn, KY. 4 of these have won NC in the last 15 years and multiple SEc championships. Now on the West you have LSU ,A&M, Miss ST,MISS,Vandy,MIZZ,ARk. ! of those teams have won a Title all I'm saying is if we have to play a 10 team conference schedule the east will get screwed in this allignment. East should stay the way it is and add a team doesnt matter who just add one and leave it the hell alone

don't know. only numbers i can give you are a site showing the revenue school athletic programs brought in the previous year.....and i can tell you from reading it that even the best Bball schools....don't bring in all that much

Well, assuming that Texas A&M would be added to the West, I think you'd have to look for a eastern school to match.

I don't see Maryland being logical...a Northern team added to the SOUTHEASTERN Conference doesn't make much sense.

Therefore, I could see the following being possibles:

1. NC State - We have no school in the state, and UNC shouldn't be touched by a ten foot pole with the shape of their program. NC State is a solid program that holds its own in most sports. Would be a good pipe in. Duke is out, simply because Kentucky probably wouldn't go for it. Having Duke and Kentucky in the same division would be a dream in football, nightmare in basketball. Would almost guarantee we never win the SEC.

2. Virginia Tech - I know it is a little farther north, but I think you still consider it the south. As we've said before, Virginia Tech is a GREAT prospect, because they have a great fan base, good solid programs, and a good location, within the state of Virginia. Would be a good add, and would consistently provide good competition in the East.

3. Georgia Tech - We have two schools in Alabama, so why not have two in Georgia? Georgia Tech consistently performs well in football and basketball, plus, would make the rivalry between GA and GT even more exciting. I feel like they would be a quality add.

4. Clemson - Would add a interesting dynamic to the state of SC. Good program, terrible coach, but a definite threat any year.

5. Florida State. I would have said Miami, but same as UNC. FSU is on the rise, and will be competing for championships in the next few years. Great fan base, great facilities, great location.

I feel like our best move is NC State, if nothing else because every state in the Southeast is covered, except for NC.

Georgia - UGA
Alabama - UA and Auburn
Florida - UF
Miss - Miss. St and Ole Miss
Louisiana - LSU
Tenn - UT and Vandy
Arkansas - Arky
Kentucky - UK
Texas - Texas A&M

I just feel like instead of pulling from one of those states, we should try to expand to either Va. Tech and grab Virginia markets, or NC State and grab NC market. Just my thoughts.
