Texas A&M/SEC megamerge thread extravaganza

HaHa I really think this gonna end up being really bad for Texas and the Big 8. Why don't the SEC just take everyone from the Big 12 and make it the WEST and everyone already here the EAST.Leave Texas as an Independent and Divide teams to even the conferences up and play ball. the heck with it have 4 division winners and do a 4 team playoff for the SEC championship.

I agree that this is going to be bad and potentially the collapse of the Big 12. They are also saying the potential is there for the Big East and/or ACC to be deminished, depending on if the SEC goes to 14 or 16 teams. I could see the remaining Big 12 members being picked apart by the PAC 12, Big 10 and Big EAST/ACC after this all settles. Really stinks because I work near the arena and have enjoyed going Big 12 basketball tournament the last few years.

Best scenario is take aTm and Mizzou on the west and UNC and Duke in the east. You have the best football and basketball conference in the country.

I can't believe the stuff some people are willing to cling onto.

If you don't like expansion, fine.

But, tamu is in.

Tamu will make more money in the league.

The league will make more money from expansion. 13 universities are not signing off on this to lose money

There's no doubt that this will generate more money for the league. That's obviously why all the schools are on board, it's great for them. But are you incapable of understanding why some fans would be turned off by this? It's not like we'll ever see a dime of all this additional money, but the fans may lose some good things along the way.

I know it's easy for a Gator fan to not understand what the Alabama series means to UT fans, but IMO losing that would be devastating. Of all the cross-divisional rivalries, none mean as much as UT/Bama from a historical perspective. But, when you end up with 16 schools in a room trying to hash out how this complicated schedule will work, the interests of 2 of them probably won't carry the day when none of the other members have a rivalry like that. Even with a nine game conference schedule you get into a scenario where in order to preserve the cross-divisional rivalries you can only play one rotating opponent, and that means you'll see those schools just a couple times every decade and a half. Most schools probably aren't going to go along with that just so UT and Bama can play each other every fall.

Direct your frustration towards Austin.

I was addressing earlier posts in this thread indicating that the league will actually lose money and that the move doesn't make good business sense

Are you hearing anything down there about Texas being content with being an independent? Thought I saw that somewhere. Also saw where Texas is replacing A&M as the last game on the schedule with Notre Dame.

Fair enough. I missed those posts, but that's obviously a foolish argument.

What possible reason would LSU have for being afraid of Texas A&M?

Texas is a fertile recruiting ground for LSU, using "if you sign with us you can play in the SEC" card.

If A&M joins they loose that card in a head to head battle with A&M for a recruit

Certainly not they way A&M fans see it quote from their board

"SEC wants us more than we want them ($$$), and the SEC cant admit it (legally) and the schools are too proud to admit it (conf pride)."

I don't really think that's going to change very much. Texas is always going to take what they want out of that state, and leave everyone else fighting over the scraps. LSU isn't exactly sitting in the middle of the Sahara from a talent standpoint either. There's plenty of talent in that state that they essentially get the first crack at.

While I obviously am in no position to do anything, I really don't think you will see the bama-tenn rivalry destroyed because of expansion.

If the league has to go to divisions that don't make sense geographically in order to hold onto rivalries like that, I believe they will

I'd be for Ole Miss (or Miss St) being moved east. Would be fun for the Vols and rebels to play each other yearly

Those are some awesome scraps.

Saying the SEC wants aTm more than aTm wants the SEC may very well be the most outrageous thing I've seen in this whole deal. I'd love to see where the Aggies end up in the remote chance that the SEC says "no thanks". They'll be screwed without the SEC, but the SEC would be just fine without them.

Texas is a rich old dude with two daughters. The SEC wants to marry into the family to get to the money. There are two choices the pretty girl (UT-Austin) and the ugly one (AM). The pretty girl said no. We don't want AM but we are willing to settle to get a hold of her inheritance.
