Texas A&M

Kyle Whittingham would be someone I would give a call.
I think he wins anywhere.

Chris Klieman
Willie Fritz
Dave Clawson

There are some good coaches out there.
Lance Leipold is the best coach out there. He would be my choice for fallback if something happened to Heupel. He is such a good coach, I don't ever want him hired by any other program in the SEC.

Clawson would do well at Texas A&M.

Hard for me to imagine a coach in a comfortable situation in the future B1G wanting to jump to the SEC, unless it was a current powerhouse or school in recruiting heaven.
Lanning making $6.2mil
Deboer <$5mil
Lincoln Riley @ $10mil
Day $10.27mil

Ryan Day by his record alone should be in a cushy spot but the arrogance of OSU if he loses a third straight to Harbaugh will be toxic.

Guy has been a consistent playoff coach yet they are restless. A&M wouldn’t be a bad opportunity for him but I don’t see how he wouldn’t be a cultural fit.

I also think if you’re Ryan Day, you’re gonna demand jimbo money

I keep weighing if A&M is big enough to pique the interest of Kiffin. I am thinking he would rather be King of Oxford than the jester of College Station. The money on offer is actually worse than he makes at OM. $9mil/yr with Ole Miss expectations has to be a nice feeling.
8-9 wins per season works there. I believe he and the (is it?) Landsharks (still?) can compete for the Playoffs some seasons.

His daughter is in school at OM and moved her SR of HS to Oxford to live with him. I don’t see him leaving when she loves it there and the divorce and Layla’s subsequent move back to California took his kids away from him for awhile.

Ryan Day playoff teams
I would love to see OSU in the SEC grind year after year. And not start out ranked in the top three every year. Verses playing one big game a year and the ghost of Penn State.
Life for him/them would be a lot different

Everyone has a price, but I suspect his is out budget for A&M.
SI stated clearly that A&M has a hard ceiling on their salary and bonus offers.
If that is true, the pool to fish from is shallow.
I think it has to be a choice that makes the donors happy.
The entire program, extending from players to oil money, has to get on board or there will be an Auburn style reckoning.

For all we know, they could be in the heat of negotiations right now. Salary, buyout, perks, on and on.

I love how we fans glimpse the (carefully controlled) public view of just about anything and think we know what's going on. 😉
No program in America is going to hire a permanent new coach before their regular season is complete. That would be a slap in the face of the student-athletes and the remaining staff members doing everything they can to finish on a high note.

I think the portal opens up on December 3 or 4 and the more indecision aTm has surrounding their HC, the more guys think about the portal.

I'll agree they wouldn't officially announce a coach now but I think the same locker room that wants to finish out as well as possible also wants some stability for the future.

I'm all for them wanting someone in a conference tourney or the CFP and then getting turned down.

Maybe we can grab some talent from the portal.

There's one name they wouldn't be afraid to chase given their penchant for seeking coaches with history...

Urban Meyer.

The dust has settled on his last issues. And let's face it, if they hired Petrino, they'd hire Urban in a heartbeat.

With the money they have for a HC and staff this angle wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Looks like Petrino is auditioning for the job today. A&M playing good and their offense looks the best it has all season
