Texas Democrats Walk Out

No way they become martyrs in anyway shape or form to TX voters. They are already martyrs to their base and that's never going to change. People in TX are actually a bright group when compared to your everyday American.

Look, Texans are for the most part dumb animals and easily fooled so arresting them would just play into the Dem hands.

Check my current reply to you. There won’t be a prosecution. It’s splitting semantics on detention vs arrest. And the power is with the speaker.
Outside the state of Texas? It's not like Texas can issue a warrant for arrest and expect another state, or the feds in DC, to uphold it.

Maybe some type of injuction from a judge to get outside state lines.

How was it resolved in 2003?

Agreed that their pay and benefits should be suspended but disagree with arresting them.

Either they make an example out of them this time or they continue throwing a temper tantrum each time they don't get their way.

Maybe if more politicians were arrested for not doing their basic responsibility the rest would get the memo. I'm all about arresting politicians for this rather than the ridiculous crap they come up with.

From what I understand all that is required is they be physically present. Thus if the sergeant at arms detains them and sits their asses in the chamber the quorum rule is met I believe. They are free to sit there and pout or suck on their thumbs if they don’t want to engage in debate and do their damn jobs.
Texas sergeant in arms going to march up to DC?

I get what you are saying if they are within texas. But is @hog88 going to accept Texas legislative powers over people in Tennessee? If not, why would DC?

The power doesn’t extend outside the state as I said. That’s why they flee the state. Going from memory I believe they finally returned after their grand standing in 2003. Which is likely what will happen here. This is just usual Texas state politics in action it’s very … dramatic 😬

I want to know who paid for the flight and who is paying their expenses. If it is not coming out of their own pockets, it qualifies as a campaign contribution and should be subject to full disclosure. Abbott should be starting an immediate investigation

Yeah if it's up to them to return on their own, I dont see an issue.

How did the elections turn out in 2004 for the culprits in 2003? I assume texas elections are on even years.

I need to go read did I mistype stating they can do that? I think I’ve stated twice the piper ends at the state line.

Empowering the sergeant at arms to fetch them doesn’t mean he has the reach to do it.

Let's make a deal: Texas Dems go back home and we remove the filibuster in the Senate. Full triumph across the board for representative democracy.
Democrats are soon to rediscover that the filibuster is their greatest friend, staring in ….checks notes…..January 2023. But sure, if they want to abolish it in time for the coming Republican majority, knock themselves out 😂

Not you. But others have repeatedly said arrest.

Abbott would have to be real opposition to the democratic party to do this. I wouldn't be so sure that this is the case. Nothing will happen other than wasted tax dollars and a delay to a bill passing anyway.

I’d have to go look but I don’t remember a Democrat state house since I’ve lived here in 1988. May have been briefly but I don’t remember it. Definitely not since 2000.

Texas should give a 30 day notice then announce that the home and all private property of anyone abandoning their office will be put up for open auction if they don’t return

Make no mistake they're doing exactly as their base wants them to do.

This action by those democrats is inexcusable. The can play this game with any bill and it needs to be dealt with otherwise we've seen where this type of behavior spreads and not in a good way.
