Texas, 'He Is Lying. People Are Dying'

Zero. And that amount will never change. However my home is heated by natural gas... because it is the cheapest form of energy in TX and will be for the foreseeable future due to the Barnett Shale.
So you don't have any energy sector expertise but are basing your feigned knowledge from the vantage point of being a consumer?

So, people in Texas don't bother with owning winter coats? Winterizing isn't just for places that snow a lot. Freezing is relatively common in Texas even if this deep freeze is rare.

The bottom line is that Texas went the bargain bin route and cut every imaginable corner. Now they're showing why you get what you pay for.

Just goes to show all government is incompetent and the incompetence scales up with size.

Some of you left wingers would lose your f###ing sh!t in the summer if you found out most of Europe doesn't have A/C. I can see it now "WHY DID YOU ALL NOT PREPARE FOR THESE POSSIBLE HEAT WAVE!"!"!"!"!

Wait..a lot of the north doesn't have A/C either. Oh man..people better start getting those systems in just in case the ozone layer fails!

Flash flood warning at my house. Sh!t..Going to go buy a boat and/or a hovercraft in case Atlanta floods!

A lot don't. Do people in Florida winterize? No. Do they own winter coats? Most don't unless they plan on travelling during the winter months. Do people in Ohio have generators for hurricane season?
The only reason most of the homes south of Gainesville have heat is because the builder supplied a heat pump instead of an air conditioner. You'd be surprised how many have never had the switch moved to heat.

Do you think that is some kind of intelligent reply? Natural gas is the cheapest form of energy in TX from non renewables. I don’t need to add any infrastructure to my home other than a standard gas furnace to accommodate it. It’s the absolute right choice for most Texans.

The bolded is absolutely priceless with your “contributions” to the discussions thus far.

I had a heat pump in Orlando. It had coils that would heat up for "emergency heat". Never. Ever. Came on. But thank god I had them in case the next ice age started when I lived down there!!

Isn't Crenshaw in Texas? He seemed to be blaming wind for this.
No he didn’t. I follow him on FB and he posted a great summary of the situation. Nobody in their right mind in TX is going to heavily invest in solar or wind right now with the cost of Natural Gas due to the Barnett Shale.

I had a heat pump in my last house and my emergency heat was gas not electric. So in winter I always switched over to emergency heat and had a very low gas and electric bill (compared to summer. This house is 2.5X bigger and actually uses less energy electricity than the old 1700 sq ft house).

So could everybody whom is concerned about how Texas homes are being built please go read the building guidelines for Energy Star certified homes here in this region of the country? My home is energy star certified. The check list did not include addon bays for snowmobile and dog sled, nor did it require the gas or water lines to be 2’ deep to avoid the brutal Texas permafrost layer.

If there's one good thing to come from this, it's people dunking on Ted Cruz. #SpringBreakGate

He used what happened in Texas and concluded that renewable don't work in "extreme" weather. There's a tweet floating around from him somewhere; probably the same summary you're talking about. He also didn't mention that gas plants had issues too.

The gas plants are having issues due to lines freezing feeding them in certain areas. I heard that from both Abbott and Crenshaw. Van Taylor, my rep, sent out a notice with the same info. We aren’t going to redo our gas delivery infrastructure for a once in 125 year storm from historical records. That would be stupid.

Texas power generation sees peak delivery in the summer and maintenance is scheduled for the winter. Another benefit of coal and gas is quick turnaround if we need to bring plants back online for extremely rare situations like this. But if the burners or generators don’t have fuel...

Unless they are engineered for it they don't work well in extreme weather.

Okay, but that's not the same thing as "renewable don't work in extreme weather." That's "we're not going to prepare them for extreme weather." Big difference.

Unum has offices in Portland, Maine that don't have AC. When it gets to 80 or so up there they start issuing extreme heat advisories and installing window units.

I don’t disagree. When I saw all of this dumbassery from the left with the narrative of “you wouldn’t have this problem with renewable” it wasn’t responded to very well, people took the dumbass bait. The fact is in Texas renewables don’t represent a large amount of the generation capacity and idiots with an agenda are twisting the situation in some really stupid ways to show that’s why we are having these problems. That’s not the issue.
