Texas Immigration Bills

There are a lot of ex-DEA guys who believe that we not only feed the Mexican Cartels, but, in dealing such a blow to the Columbian Cartels in the late '80s, we in fact paved the way for the Mexican Cartels.

Nick Reding does a great job describing this process in his book Methland.

Yup.

Let me be more clear in my last post: legalize pot and tax it, decriminalize other drugs that come from Latin America, I think.

It only makes sense to legalize and tax pot. Removes a large portion of our prison population and it would bring in a lot of revenue. Not sure what to do about cocaine and stuff like that, though. Maybe someone else has some insight. Portugal seems to have had a lot of success with decriminalization.

America's drug problem feeds the cartels. Legalize drugs like Portugal and the money flowing from the US into Mexico and the cartels is drastically reduced. We could also save a ton of money by cutting off the never ending "war on drugs" bullcrap. Tax pot and we could solve a lot of budget woes.

You may need to hold your jaw closed but I agree 100%. The war on drugs has done nothing except give power to gangs and cartels and send people to prison who don't really need to be there. Same exact side effects as prohibition but it's worse because it's gone on for much longer.

Everyone is fleeing Mexico and some of their problems are a direct result of some of our policies. Until we make a conceited effort to help, then we can't reasonably expect to completely close our borders.

Use our military to wipe out the cartels?

Holy crap, we agree on something.

Yep.

Taking control of the drug market away from the cartel would do infinitely more than hiring 10,000 more border patrolmen or building some stupid fence, AND provide tax revenue instead of costing tens or hundreds of millions of dollars to forcefully shut down the border.

If somebody wants to come here then let them, but if there's a beneficial way to entice somebody to stay in Mexico by working to clean up their country AND help us generate revenue, jobs and clear up prison space, then we damn well better do it.

Feel free to enlist. We are currently involved in two wars. See what that's like.

It's a lot easier to be an armchair general, and let someone else actually do the dirty work. Then you can freely discuss attacking Iran, Syria, China, Somali pirates, drug cartels, Venezuela or anyone else that pisses you off simultaneously.

How the hell do you live in cali and have these views?

A lot of people in california are anti illegal immigration. Id imagine more so than most liberal meccas since we deal with it every day.

That's what it seems like to me. I don't mind people defending illegal immigrants, but I can't stand people who haven't spent any time around the border and don't know anything about the situation complaining how those against illegal immigration are all racists.

Please, convince me why it is wrong for someone to cross an invisible line, take a job that is offered to them, and work to feed their family?

Because it is illegal. And because they have a way to do it legally. I for one wish you would go to Mexico.

Before I'm called racist or anything like that let me explain my problem.

My mom is a CSM at wal mart. Pretty much stands there til something goes wrong on a register. Well she came in one day telling me a story about a young lady that she works with. Said the lady works, her husband lost his job and they can't get cant get any help. They are currently sleeping in a late 90s Honda Accord.

On the flipside, she had a problem on a register one day with a hispanic lady who didn't speak english. Had no way of communicating with her. After a lengthy experience, the lady paid with her food stamp card. Paid like 400 dollars for groceries. And had a balance of 2000 + on her card left for that month.

Our own working ppl can't get help, but an illegal immigrant can. I have a problem with that.

Other than she didn't speak English, how do you know she's an illegal? Pretty sure you have to have a SS# to get food stamps...

No. Mom had said she saw a single hispanic lady have multiple cards with different last names on them.
