Rooting for a loss today under the belief that it will lead to more wins in the future, thus a net gain? Not as egregious as people make it out to be.

Why do people spend so much time on this forum debating who "true fans" are? Obviously, if you're wasting time on a Vol messageboard after the joke that has been the last 3 years and still care about the future of this program, you're a true fan.

Not egregious at all.

In fact, a sign of a great fan who wants the best for Tennessee.

I will never willingly cheer for the Vols to lose. That's just dumb.

under any other circumstances you would be right. But in this case, please explain how being happy about this loss, that will unquestionably benefit the program, is dumb

True fans would want this blight on humanity removed from the sidelines. He is a whiny little beeeoch - a Saban wannabe without the brains or the record. He does not deserve to walk the sidelines of our great university. He is a vile, despicable little weasel who needs to be run out of here on a rail! To pull for this tard is to pull against the sacred, honorable winning tradition of UT football!!

saban wasnt looking to good after tonight

We all know Dooley is gone, but I feel for the players. Dooley collects his buyout, but the players are stuck. Okay so it's not dumb, but I refuse to be happy about it.

my point exactly...that loss will lead to future wins....big picture guys, think big picture

Guess I don't understand. I wanted to win and let Dooley go. I don't like losing. Dooley was gone regardless of the outcome so I wanted to win.

Fair enough. Obviously I knew this thread would cause some to call my fanhood into question, but I do expect that they counter me with something other than an empty platitude like "a true fan would never be happy about a loss". It is extremely rare that that would not be true, but this is a rare situation were in...certainly one id never thought we'd be in.

You have to understand how significant this loss is. This is the one that pushed all the maybes over the fence, the one that roused the media to publicly call for dooleys firing...and its still saturday!

Ok I get that but 61k in the stands last week and a close win against Missouri still gets Dooley fired. He was gone regardless. I just don't like losing...ever.

its not that I "like" the loss and seeing our guys in pain, I just like the larger implications and that the guys will enjoy many more future wins because of this loss

It was much like a visit to a dentist. You know its going to be painful and costly, but you also know that if you avoid it - it is going to become more painful and might even kill you in the worst case scenario. THat said- it did hurt alot. You think we fans would be used to his moronic moves and the inevitable sorrow that ensues. BUT- it is intensely unpleasant.

I totally agree with you, OP. Today's loss will benefit the program in the long run. I'm not gonna lie, once it went to ot I didn't care if we did lose just to put the final nail in the coffin. Dooley is a walking failure that has no idea wtf he's doing during the game.

I agree 100 %.

I think most people here share your view but won't admit it on the boards because well you see the sort of response you're getting. I wanted us to win today but deep down feared that winning out may have lead to Dooley being retained, which we all know would lead to more losses and more failure next year. This year is done and has been long before this game. This loss guarantees that next season we have hope for better days.

I am not sure about that. If we had won out, most think he had a good chance at year 4. Of course, this is all based on rumor. Maybe 2-3 people in the world actually knew what was what and I am not one.

I will say that I wasn't surprised so the loss didn't hurt as bad. But once Mizzou converted on 4 th down and took it to OT, Dooley's fate was sealed. I believe he was gone before this game but once it got to OT a win wasn't changing anything.
