That's racist!

Correct, we don’t know and that is why I qualified my response with “if it went down like that”.

If it went down like that you’re sending the wrong message to the kid by not fighting back.
I reread his post. Sounds like the rules for such matters are the problem, with no flexibility for the educator to use their own judgement.

Heck no. The truth is we probably don't know all the details of this situation and trying to decipher it on a message board is beyond silly. Heck, the educator may he an idiot as well. It's the end of the school year. It's an eyebrow raiser that he sought advice on the matter from a message board. Goodness gracious

There are a lot of smart people on here and I like the give and take. There is no agenda.

For what it’s worth, I told the principle I disagreed with the punishment and the characterization this was a racial incident. I’ve decided to let it go after that. This was a case where all involved had the exact same story, it’s just one side felt offended. That’s frustrating, but at the end of the day my kid did nothing wrong with and I made sure he understood that.

It sounds like you chose the best option.

This is what the principle told me without explicitly saying it.

If it happens again I’m taking it higher. As it stands, I’ve decided to let this go. I told my kid about my discussion and disagreement with the principle and he said thanked me for standing up for him.

Another great link. Thanks.
Looks they've followed through, too. Lots of writings, podcasts, and other media from a wide range of perspectives.

In the linked article, this 2nd paragraph was particularly poignant:
There are standards of black racial authenticity beyond the political, too. Shelly Eversley’s The Real Negro suggests that in the latter half of the 20th century, the criteria of what constitutes “authentic” black experience moved from perceptible outward signs, like the fact of being restricted to segregated public spaces and speaking in a “black” dialect, to psychological, interior signs. In this new understanding, Eversley writes, “the ‘truth’ about race is felt, not performed, not seen.”

But I think it misses the mark. Someone who "feels" authentically black must also have the "perceptible outward signs". If they don't have both, they are discounted and marginalized ie Rachel Dolenzal (sp?).

Goodness gracious indeed.

  • Reporter Chris Rufo broke the news about Disney's training method to incorporate race theory into the company's guidelines
  • Rufo appeared on Tucker Carlson's FOX shot to talk about his findings
Newly revealed Disney's training documents show the company asked their white staff to 'decolonize their bookshelves,' participate in reparations and complete a 'privilege checklist' as part of their anti-racism training.

The media conglomerate has been slammed as becoming the 'Wokest Place on Earth' after the training module showed them adopting 'critical race theory' as part of their employee training.

'The great irony of this is the people in charge of are some of the richest and most powerful and privileged white males in the history of humanity, and they are pushing this divisive, critical race theory-based ideology''

Rufo says Disney executives 'bombarded' employees with trainings on 'systemic racism,' 'white privilege,' 'white fragility ,' and launched racially segregated 'affinity groups' at the company's headquarters,.

The training documents show that staff were asked to complete a 'privilege checklist' , and read a series of how-to guides, including '75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice.'

I would check my kid out of school every day that he was to have silent lunch and taken him to his restaurant of choice.

I would have taken it higher for him. If I have to deal with someone and they claim they can't do anything, then I say put me in touch with someone that can do something.

Why waste a Harvard scholarship on that nonsense? That's Manatee CC material (I live in Manatee Co., FL).
I think Harvard actively looks for students pursuing these degrees to round out their enrollment. Kid still needs to be exceptional.

I'm much the same, school board meeting, mayors office, councilman. Would all be well aware of the policy that allows someone to be written up for asking a question without malice.

They do, we went to a meet n greet with Harvard, Georgetown and Stanford representatives for my daughter. It is part of their plan to fill all the departments with candidates.
