That's racist!

I'm not disagreeing, but at the same time there are pragmatics to consider. It's a valid criticism to say that if you don't like a word, stop using it--just from a practical perspective.

My daughter complained once that a creepy guy was oggling her breast. I pointed out that a lot of cleavage was showing.

She got the hint and tucked her cleavage away. It doesn't change the fact that there are creepy guys in the world, but it does change the fact that she was serving up cleavage to be oggled.

Dude. I said I was sorry. Let it go.

Pics? Wait. Is your daughter 18? If yes. Pics? :birgits_giggle:

Racist words toward white people have no real impact because they weren't directly connected to systematic oppression in the past.

I honestly think most people here could easily see the difference, but simply don't want to.

The word slave is derived from the ethnic group Slav. The reason being is several centuries of enslavement by other groups of people. Just about every group has suffered as the hands of others. At least in this country, in this day and age, there are protections for all groups of people. If you want to see true systematic oppression of an ethnic group, look no further than the Roma (Gypsies) people of Europe. They don't enjoy the same protections that all groups of people in America enjoy.

have you ever read a history book? Especially our white washed ones? All it is is white people oppressing other white people.

I guess we just realized that what someone else's great great great grand pappy did to my same great grand pappy doesn't matter to me one bit. just like you don't mind about all the oppression African cultures put on other African cultures. It's funny how it is so much worse one way and not the others.

"Sensationalize" doesn't mean what you think it means, unless you're suggesting that white people calling black people "n***ers" are doing nothing wrong and black people are just overreacting. That would be an interesting stance to take.

I'm saying people using words as racial slurs are responsible for their own actions, rather than saying "Well look at these other people..." If it's not the n-word, they'd just use a different slur, because they are intending to belittle other races as you make excuses for them

If I didn't like being called JoeVol I wouldn't refer to myself as JoeVol. Seeing as how I don't refer to myself as JoeVol other people don't as well. Now if I did call myself JoeVol, like we need another of those, I should not be shocked when other people start using it. And I should definitely not be offended when they use it and I take it in a negative connotation.

sorry Joe.

That ending would have been better, Joe.
