So the Giants wanted to hire an offensive coordinator (the way the league is trending) from a team that won the division, in the same state, a division Flores didn’t win and Belichick sent a text by mistake to Flores and that’s supposed to be somehow tied to racism?A fired black NFL head coach is suing the NFL.
Brian Flores Files Lawsuit Against NFL, New York Giants With Text Messages To Prove Racism | 95.3 WDAE
So the Giants wanted to hire an offensive coordinator (the way the league is trending) from a team that won the division, in the same state, a division Flores didn’t win and Belichick sent a text by mistake to Flores and that’s supposed to be somehow tied to racism?
The NFL has made shallow attempts at wokeness, and this is what they get. They made a rule that outwardly looks like minorities are given a chance. Flores is suing because he has evidence that he is a pawn in this game because of his skin color.
He has text messages that indicate Giants and Daboll was a done deal, interviewing him was just a formality.
He alleges Elway was drunk and interviewing him was a formality.
He alleges Dolphins tried to pay him to tank. Then fired him for winning. If this is true, look at it this way, "The Dolphins hired me to be a token black placeholder coach for 2 years while they rebuilt. They asked me to lose on purpose so they could get better draft picks and justify firing me. Instead, I won a lot and they still fired me."
If he can support all this, the NFL is going to pay dearly.
I would bet $10 million that Belichick sent that to the wrong Brian on purpose.
IDK what Flores is saying exactly with regard to "racism" but he's likely going to win his suit.
Also, Flores is 100% the most sure thing coach available. When he got fired, every sports podcast and every serious fan I knew was mind blown and talking about who the lucky next team will be. We are to believe he's hard to work with, and that's more important than winning. Daboll is not proven at all. Yeah, he's succeeded as an OC with Josh Allen. OK, man. Let's see how you do with Daniel Jones....because Flores was winning as a HC with Tua and a front office that tried to tank.
I see what you’re saying, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with hiring on philosophy, with Dabol being an offensive minded coach versus Flores who comes from the Belichick coaching tree of D coordinators. Flores had already expressed his displeasure with Tua, and there’s a lot of he said he said stuff going on in regard to that. The Giants can hope that the light turns on for Jones this season with a new offensive minded coach or they can get the pieces in place for who they want for the 2023 draft or FA. The NFC is going to be devoid of any elite QBs if Rodgers goes to the Broncos or someone else in the AFC, maybe the Giants see this as opportunity to make them more attractive to a big time QB. I don’t see the Giants scenario in this as being racist at all. In fact, I’m really not seeing it at all, not with your Broncos either . Who cares if Elway shows up hung over?
All they have to do is threaten it really. The NFL will have a PR disaster on their hands, given the current political climate.
Not now for sure...... I felt he was done wrong but it's a business. He makes some fair points and he got the short end of the stick for sure. If half of what he claims is true the NFL is going to do everything they can to keep this from rolling. Is it smart to go offensive when everybody else is, or should you zag? I think you just take the best coach.
The Giants can hire whomever they want, but I think they made a mistake and they did Flores a great disservice by using him to comply with this rule when he never had a shot at the job.
I get why the Broncos passed on Flores. They think Hackett will get them Rodgers. But still, it sounds like they jacked around with him because they needed to comply with the rule.
Flores didn't want to tank for Tua, and he won them a bunch of games. Then he asked for Herbert. They took Tua. Then he wanted to start Fitzpatrick, and they made him start Tua. Flores was right every step of the way and any one of us would have expressed displeasure with Tua at this point. All the fans have. If I have to choose between a young, competent coach who is winning despite an underwhelming young QB and that underwhelming young QB, I take the coach.
There are like 7 jobs available and he's not getting any of them.
Your last sentence is key. This is the type of thing that can get the discussion rolling. The players aren't going to strike and the owners know that. Look at the last lockout and how many players were taking out loans to sustain their lifestyles.
With online gambling now legal across the country it would take something much bigger than this to create a PR storm that would hurt the NFL. The only thing that would hurt the NFL and would scare the crap out of them is if congress threatened to take their anti-trust exemptions away.
I think you have a point if we’re talking about the AFC, but the NFC will be a one division conference if Rodgers leaves . Dak will debatably be a top 2 QB in the NFC. I agree that Flores had done a good job, and I was surprised that he was fired . I’m not that surprised that this took this sort of turn, with the exception of Flores outing the Fins owner for asking him to tank. That’s potentially career ending. Another angle to this Giants thing is that Judge was a Belichick disciple as well, and for some accounts the players weren’t really happy with him practice styles . Maybe the Giants didn’t want another New England guy?Is it smart to go offensive when everybody else is, or should you zag? I think you just take the best coach.

Tua is humble and he's not soft, so he wouldn't pull a Ben Simmons.

I do think Flores is certainly deserving of another job and serious consideration. I think I’m having more of an issue with the Dolphins ownership than the accusations of racism going around. If that’s racism on their end then they’re stupid and should receive what they have headed their way. Either way, it reeks of incompetence.

This is just the type of incident that would have players consider a strike. The firestorm of a threatened lockout, hammering away about racist practices of the NFL. It's PR they don't want.
