That's racist!

I’m guessing the US Women could easily win Gold with any combination of 30 some players.

Brilliant move leaving off the most popular player in the world.

Why would supposed proponents of the women’s game want to maximize eyeballs during prime time Olympic coverage? 🤷‍♀️
I hope every professional athlete in the Olympics loses.

I don't know. @NurseGoodVol strikes me as the type of person who could kill if necessary and knows how and where to place the body so her adversary simply vanishes. I don't wanna tangle with those types.
I’m not allowed to say, but I know she loves the movie Red Dragon and especially the scene out in the big barn with all those hogs 👀

Female athletes and fans of female athletics are about the worst gatekeeping folks in the world. They'd rather watch the league and sport die than have it "polluted" by someone that isn't involved on their terms. It's weird and sad.
Not as weird and sad as this kind of Chicken Little reaction to someone not in the best 12 being left off the team

Isn't the point to put your best players on the team? To win gold? The women's game has gotten much more competitive internationally.

The easy answer is Clark isn't one of the best players in league, much less the country........ Yet.

And the tired argument of getting more eyeballs is lazy. Most of the people using it wouldn't watch anyway.

The US Women are going to win the Gold irrespective of who they put on the squad. They could put me and you on the squad.

It won’t even be close. Gold medal game will be a 20 point beatdown.

I’m not sure I’m buying that she’s not one of the 12 best…

But even if that’s true - Yes, eyeballs do actually matter. And Yes, prime time Olympics coverage is a hell of a wasted opportunity.

She isn't one of the best 12 her averages and game at this point are pretty clear. She's got to have time to adjust. And that kind of pressure is probably best not to put on her at the moment, although she's a competitor and I'm sure she'd answer the bell if the opportunity presented itself.

Caitlin Clark is the biggest phenomenon to hit women’s basketball in, honestly I don’t when.

Buzz, eyeballs, attendance, money, deals, coverage, arguments.

There are literally heroes and villains, plots and sub-plots - it’s a drama that America is voraciously consuming.

Lightning is striking right now.

Women’s USA Basketball just stared a marquee prime-time opportunity in the face, shrugged their shoulders, and said “meh”.

🤷‍♀️

Who’s the transcendent player that got the 12th spot on the roster?
Who is this dynamo that secured to Gold for the US Women via her addition?

As they should, you don't trade all that for the integrity of the team and more importantly the game. You put the best players on the court. I think Clark will one day be one of the best, but she isn't yet. It's that simple.

8 million people watched the WBB final at the last Olympics, btw (and I’m not sure that included me, who will definitely be watching this time around)

The integrity of the game? Lol in what world are you living in where any of these games is going to be in doubt?

I don't know, you tell me.
You’re the one claiming she’s not one of the best 12.

That the point is to “win”, and integrity of the game, etc, etc.

So who is this player in the 12th spot that is demonstrably better and has assured Gold for the US?

All 12 are better than her, the 12th spot is probably Taurasi who is likely the locker room leader of the team. Arike Ogunbowale is also better and didn’t make the team

My girls swim. They are big time excited to watch Katie Ledecky in Paris.

They don’t play basketball. But were intrigued by Caitlin when my parents came to town and insisted we watch her.

They likely would have been interested in Team USA with Caitlin, probably less likely without her.

Wonder for how many others that is also true?
