The 103rd World Series

A) Walking the bases loaded is almost always a stupid move. You basically add 50 points to the next guy's batting average, since now you HAVE to throw strikes. While they were doing it, my wife said, "Look! They're doing your favorite thing!"

B) Calling the series over is premature. Schilling is by no means invincible, and all the Rockies need is a split.

i even said that at the start of this thread, but the last thing they want to do is get scared. if this gets any uglier, that's what is going to happen. red sox in 5, as much as i hate it

So 'real' Boston fans are obnoxious? All of them? I find myself generally likeable, tounge in cheek at times, but likeable.

yankee and red sox fans are great for baseball.. they piss you off so much when they are rolling that you get passionate about the game and when they are losing, you rub it in their face. I love bandwagon fans because they keep you on your toes. IMO, our fanbase got so obnoxious after manning and then 98 that I thought we were almost unbearable. It's part of sports, live with it.

Is there anything MLB baseball can do about these layoffs going into the WS?

Its really affecting the quality of the games; last year the Tigers were clearly the better team, then they get a week off and their timing is f'd. It looks like this series will be going down the similar path

Generalizations are always scattershot, of course, but these days there's nobody I'd less rather see walk into my local pub than a bunch of guys sporting Red Sox and/or Patriots regalia.

(Other than England fans during the Euro or World Cups, I guess, but that's a different league altogether.)

for what it's worth, this got ugly.... now the rockies' pitchers are scared, and everyone is going to be wetting their pants in the batters box tomorrow night. I'll call it "prematurely". It's over.

As far as the long layoff, other than eliminating that extra off day while in Cleveland, I don't think there's much that can be done. Colorado swept and Boston had to go seven. It just happens.

It's MLB kowtowing to Fox, who apparently doesn't want to preempt some of their regular crappy schedule for the games. World Series games draw lower ratings than reruns of reality tv, apparently, so Fox fits it in haphazardly and MLB just lets them do it. It sucks for the Rockies, that's for sure. They haven't had nine days off since February.

That rumbling sound you hear is the armored cars driving away from the Gagne Estate with most of the contract he thought he was going to sign this offseason. Mop-up relief with a 12-run lead, huh?

My wife calls little beardlets like that a "womb broom."
:lolabove: Very nice Vtorix.

In regards to the thread, I have chalked last night up to the entire Boston roster simply seeing the ball. The Indians did the same thing to them earlier in the ALCS. I could be wrong, but I simply got the feeling it was one of those nights that every Sock was just on.

You may well be right. In 1996 the Braves came out and pounded the Yankees 12-1 in Yankee Stadium in Game 1, and we all know how that series turned out. Beat a diminished Schilling tonight and Game 1 doesn't mean anything.

Frank Reich also lead the Bills back from a 35-3 deficit in the playoffs. Not saying it's impossible, as if sports can teach anything, the only sure thing is that there is no sure thing.
However, Curt was sharp against Cleveland in game 6, The "Outs by Contact" Schilling is not as fun to watch as old Curt, but he can get the job done.

The Rockies will either come out tonight as enraged and fired up, or shell-shocked. The trophy will wind up in Boston this year, i believe not as a fan of the club, but as a lifelong baseball fan. The Rockies attitude tonight will determine how long it will take.

This is one of the dumbest terms to come into sports in the last few years. Just because you root for a team that has become loathsome doesn't make everybody else "haters." Everybody else in America is rooting for the Rockies A) because they're likeable, and B) they're not the Socks or Yanquis.

Go ahead and start celebrating. A 2-0 lead is obviously totally insurmountable.
