The 107th United States Open Championship

Well, strictly from the viewpoint of the average fan who tunes in to watch. I think the USGA makes a huge leap of faith when it assumes folks will continue to watch a bogey parade. The announcers can talk tough tests and tradition all they want, but there comes a point when the casual viewer just hits the remote to watch NASCAR qualifying on SPEED...

And that is most certainly not good for growing the game.

I'm no longer for growing the game. 6 hour rounds because casual fans watch the pros stalk putts forever couldn't be more annoying.

To be sure. There are enough courses in my neck of the woods that the six hour round is unheard of, but your point is well taken....
I hear ya, but I've played Pebble several times and couldn't really enjoy it because people feel they're at Mecca and have to stalk every shot, putt or otherwise like they're on TV (not to mention the incessant photo ops and such). I just about can't take it.

Spyglass is a bit better, but well on its way to unbearable as well. In that neck of the woods, I now play the Bayonet course on old Fort Ord, CA because it's hard enough that the casual folks won't come.

The universal response to watching a group in front of me lay on the green and line their putts up:

"Those f'ers better be playing $100 a hole"

Our crowd is more like:

"OK, you hit into 'em and I'll go apologize"

That it definitely the time to hit your three wood from 260 and then confess "I have never done that before. I was just trying to lay up.":)

Paul Casey is about to post a ridiculous number for Day 2. He might be 12 shots below the field average

From Phil's media session after shooting +7...

reporter - "what are you gonna do with the rest of your day?"

Phil - "Go home and watch the carnage on TV..."

I'm not watching it, but it looks like Nick Dougherty just got a severe reality check.

Cabrera's final birdie knocked wounded Phil from the weekend.

It's probably the best thing that could have happened to Phil. It was only a matter of time before either fatigue or that hay length rough finally got his wrist.

They may as well start engraving Tiger's name on the trophy tonight. While I realize that Tiger has never before come from behind in the final round to win a major, does ANYONE here think that he isn't going to win this tournament at this point?

This was one of one of Tiger's finest ball-striking days of his career. He just couldn't quite drop the putts.

You'd think that Tiger would be able to go shoot a 70 and walk away with the trophy, but Baddely is not your average journeyman on a hot streak. It won't surprise me a bit if he puts up a good number today.

Actually, were not paired with Tiger, I would agree with you. Being paired with Tiger for the first time often rattles most players.
