The 108th U.S. Open Championship

Yeah I find it a tad odd that he only grimaces in pain when he hits a bad shot.
There were several occasions where he hit good shots and reacted . . . but doesn't it sort of stand to reason that the pain is what causes bad shots in the first place, so of course he's going to be reacting more to pain after bad shots?

Maybe. But no matter what it's all about him. If he wins, he's courageous and triumphs over the pain. If he loses, the pain was just too much. Personally I hope Rocco goes out tomorrow and shoots 69 and Eldrick shoots 70 and loses because he missed a putt. He's the best player ever, but get off it already. It's worse than Dickey V and Tyler Hansbrough.

He does get a ton of exposure, but I think most of it has to do with the fact that he is probably the greatest golfer of all time and he's happening right before our eyes.

Have you not been paying attention for the last 10 years? Its Tiger F'n Woods, man.

It IS over.

you obviously haven't watched any of this Open. Tiger has grimaced in pain all week long, after good shots, after bad shots, after so so shots. He's stumbled, he's fallen and he's used clubs as canes. He's also sprayed his driver all over Torrey Pines Golf Course.

Rocco Mediate meanwhile has played smart, solid golf just about all week long, all with a smile and the fun of someone playing a regular foursome with his college buddies.

I repeat and I'll capitalize it this time to make it seem louder:

THIS TOURNAMENT IS FAR FROM OVER.

by the way, while he didn't hit the dead center of the cup with that final putt, it was nowhere near the liphanging super miraculous fall into the cup "without an inch to spare" crap ESPN is spewing. it was right center and rolled in. It was nothing more than a very solid putt.

And despite all that look where they stand going into tomorrow. I hope Rocco wins but I get the felling that he is going to choke.

If I had to pick a winner, I'd pick Tiger. But Rocco's shown all week he has the marbles to hang in there and rebound from mistakes and avoid the big ugly mistake. He has one double bogey thus far and nothing worse.

Do you really think people are tuning into the US Open to see some random guy shoot even on the last day?

Of coure they are going to hype him up over everyone else, simply because most people have never heard of 9 of the top 10.

By the way, I've not gotten the chance to watch any of this tourney but I checked in and saw the top five and I'm stunned.

These guys played this course in Jan. and no one can do better than -1. That's incredible. Plus the fact that it's a bunch of no names and Tiger.

I remember on Weds ESPN was talking about how no one really played any practice rounds because they were so familiar with the course. Guess not huh

You are trying as hard as you can to diminish the greatness of Eldrick Woods.

i know this has been said, but what a helluva shot by Tiger today. I walked up into the bar at work and saw just as he hit it. wow.

Hogwash... people tune in specifically to see Villegas prance around and Sergio try to play his way into the first page of the leaderboard...

shows how little you know once again. If anything, I'm pushing Tiger. He made a great putt. It didn't just barely fall in, he lined it up almost perfectly.

Good morning everyone.

Amazing weekend... "huh Rodg..."

There are only so many times I can listen to Miller say "Huh" in one dose. By Sunday it was physically annoying to me.

But I digress, this really was an amazing weekend. Well, Friday and Saturday were.... Tiger's Friday front nine and Saturday back nine were the finest major performances I've seen.

Phil's Saturday afternoon at #13 was just as disturbing to watch as Tiger was earth shattering.

Sunday was a different beast altogether though. Sunday was hard to watch. Just a grind for everyone, not least Woods trying to play his last 15 holes through a hydrocodone induced haze. The tying birdie at the end made watching the grind while listening to Miller bash everyone's decision making and then seek support with yet another dose of..."Huh Dottie?.."... worth the wait. Rocco was the bright spot Sunday. What a good story.

This playoff today, I'll be surprised if it is still a match by the time they arrive at 13. But then, anything can happen in this Open, as we have seen already...

I have several gripes about the actual coverage from ESPN and NBC but must admit that I loved the primetime golf Saturday and Sunday nights.

The whole Phil vs. Tiger thing was way overdone on Saturday. Surely no one on earth short of Phil's relatives actually thought he had a shot after the way he played on Friday.

What Tiger did on Saturday was amazing.

I don't think I have ever wished for a birdie anymore than I did when Mediate was putting on 18 yesterday.

I am looking forward to the grind this afternoon.

Well, if you wanted the David v Goliath you got it (or as Rocco called it battling the "monster" that is TW).

Should be an amazing day of golf to watch and I wish I could. And while I enjoy watching Tiger's pursuit of Jack's record, I wouldn't hurt my feelings at all to see Rocco pull out a win.

To those that think the knee is being over-emphasized, I once tried to play a round way too early after surgery and didn't make it off the range before calling it quits because of pain. What he is doing is really amazing considering the swing he has and walking a long way each day with no rest.

Watching Tiger play is truly being a witness to greatness. A living legend.

Its good for golf and great for the ratings. I am just tired of other golfers talking about how great he is. Woody Austin is plain nuts, but I love it when he starts rolling out the Tiger quotes.

In a situation like today it is hard for me not to root for the underdog.

I used be so anti-Tiger but have changed my stance on him. Just can't root against a guy that cares enough to make himself that great. I don't necessarily root for him but I don't root against him anymore. It is hard to root against Rocco today.
