The 108th U.S. Open Championship

I used be so anti-Tiger but have changed my stance on him. Just can't root against a guy that cares enough to make himself that great. I don't necessarily root for him but I don't root against him anymore. It is hard to root against Rocco today.

I am really the opposite. I pulled for him early in his career and do not begrudge his appetite for perfection and greatness. The butt kissing from the guys who are chasing him surely establishes Woods as one of the greatest (if not the greatest) to play the game. I am just tired of it.

I hope he keeps playing ten more years at this level. I don't think I'll ever tire of the heroics. I also don't think the knee and body will give him ten more years at this level.

you'll need to take up this debate with Nick Faldo, who said those at Muirfield were running at 15. I'm not sure he can match golf wits with you and he probably doesn't know as many golfers or caddies, but he said what he said.

I love sarcasim!!!!:)

Kind of like the NFL "throwback" unis. I think it would be cool to see. Give Eldrick a persimmon driver and some old forged blades.

He does play forged blades! Irons have not changed very much over the years. It's the ball, Driver, and course conditions that make the difference.

First, re: Mickelchoke, that nine could not have happened to a more deserving chap.

Second, re: Tiger, I suppose I have to agree that if ever he is ripe for being picked off, today is it. After four rough days on that knee, you have to wonder if he can grind out a fifth day.

Thing is, even in the face of that difficulty, he bore down and the competitive fire was there on the back nine on Sunday. That intensity and focus is what makes him so good. Knowing that he would have that zing of pain, he willed himself nonetheless to hit driver where he thought appropriate. He just managed to block out of his mind the pain he knew was coming.

The guy started off with a double and a bogey and whittled the lead back down and tied on the last shot on the last hole. All with a bad knee.

If he can keep that going, I just don't see RM, as well and as smartly as he's played, being able to keep pace.

I'd still make Tiger a 5 to 1 favorite today.

Exactly. And frankly, if the field were loaded up with clubs from the seventies, guys like Woods would have an even larger advantage over the field.

Nobody hits irons more solidly than Tiger and with the old balata balls, that was a huge differentiator. I suspect he would have been a better driver of the ball, relative to the field, if everyone had old persimmons.

Law do you live close to Tiger?

Close is relative. I live in Tuscawilla in Winter Springs, he lives in Isleworth. About 50 minutes. I've never seen him out and about, though a number of my friends have.

Had to leave the lunch restaurant as RM boinged his sand shot off a cart path or two. What happened?

Hey....We agree on something!!!!! :dance2:

If the Drivers were still wood, the balls still were balata (only 5 out of a dozen were any good), and the fairways were not cut to the length of most public courses' greens......Tiger would be 100X better than anyone today.

Tiger will be the best ever! When he....and he will....beats Jack's records. Most people don't care about this game, but I can only think of TWO athletes (yes.....he IS an athlete) that are better, or equal , to him in history:

1. Babe Ruth
2. ALI
NOONE ELSE!!!

He is not my favorite...I like Phil and Duval (where is he???) but I love to witness history!
