The 111th United States Open

Such a big fan that he singlehandedly made me purchase a SeeMore putter after that Open.

I've still managed to never golf in my life. I'm sure I'd be beyond awful. How long would it take me to be able to legitimately hit a ball and have it go in the desired direction with a favorable velocity?

You wanting a cutter or looking for some power sink?

In jest to the velocity part of your question. If you've never played I'd suggest a lesson for the basics.

Or you could always PM shortgame and ask him to mail you his dvd of his rendition of "Golf My Way."

What's the going rate for a decent set of a few golf lessons?

Yes, I know I can google it, but that won't tell me quality. If I'm gonna legitimately go into it, I want to get a good teacher for a fair price

'99 with Payne Stewart was unreal. Phil threw that one away. '08 was just insane, Saturday at '08 was one of the greatest days in golf I've ever seen. '04 at Shinnecock may be my favorite. '06 at winged foot was most depressing.

Haven't had a lesson in a good minute so I'm not sure. I'd ask around your area to find out who's legit before going.

I've never played either.

Took lessons at fairways and greens. $250 for four hour long sessions. You may not think it's much time but I went from shooting around 110--(no mulligans and playing every shot counting every stroke) to shooting a 79 after my last lesson. I normally shoot high 70s low 80s playing the ball down of course like I said with no mulligans or gimmie putts and counting all strokes. Lessons are definitely worth it. As are a good set of clubs. I play ping g2 clubs now. You can tell a big difference in that and some cheap pair but get lessons before getting fitted for clubs tailored to your swing. The lessons make golf fun.

$250 was for 4 one hour sessions. You may also check nice courses with club pros. May get a better deal. Just make sure to do your homework on the pro and that they know what they are talking about

Honestly, I'd head out to the driving range first. Do you have any buddies you golf regularly? Get them to go with you if so and they can teach you the basics. Once you get the basic swing down, then you might want to look into lessons.

The important thing with golf lessons is to make sure you can put the time into it. If you can, don't set it up to where you get say 5 lessons each Wednesday. Set up your own schedule. I've seen way too many people pay for lessons, but only make it to the range or course on the day they have lessons. I've seen people have ten lessons, but since they never practiced on their own, all ten lessons were essentially the same thing.

The comparisons are now countless. Andy North makes a good point that this might spark a fire within Tiger. I'll contest that the face of golf might have just changed. Rory is simply too easy to root for.

We might have just watched a passing of the torch, pending a comeback of epic proportions from Eldrick. Regardless, golf is in good shape.
