Conversely, I can now enjoy seeing even more of the leaders' shots without having to worry about the cameras panning to the guy 10 strokes behind so we can see him lose another drive to the right.

three cheers for this!

put me down as well. looking forward to Sunday.

right now, between Watson or Marino, i'll take the original TW.

Considering how well my choice of Mahan has turned out... I'm going to revise my pick of the winner to Goosen.

Not sure how much longer the old man will last at the top, and no matter how many times Ian Baker-Finch tells me that he's going to be a big winner eventually on the Tour, I can't make myself believe in Marino either... although he would kind of fit the "where did he come from?" mold of some past major winners.

His winning percentage has slipped considerably since he got married.

I don't know the exact stats, but I bet that if you look at his wins since he got married and then count his wins in the previous same time period, he's actually won more.

I thought this was a funny bit that some of you make enjoy:

TNT yesterday abandoned live coverage of the British Open for a rambling 4½ minute interview with Stewart Cink, then went to a panoramic shot, next showed three live shots, then to more scenery, then to commercials. Geez! Much of the day TNT did whatever it took -- interviews, old tape (mostly of Tiger Woods), British Open come-on promos (we're already watching!), features, extended on-camera chats among commentators -- to show as little live golf as possible. Why buy the rights?

TNT's coverage does leave a bit to be desired... but at least we don't have to listen to Johnny Miller.

This has to be the worst leaderboard I can ever remember at a major. It's like a Nationwide event.

Tom Watson is having an out of body experience or something. He's not just hanging on, he's hitting it as solidly as anybody in the field.

Lee Westwood and Retief Goosen have to be licking their chops right now.

I hope Tom has a good final round. He's a class guy and this would be a tremendous accomplishment.

"Tremendous accomplishment" is an understatement. If he manages to hold on, this would probably be the most improbable win in major championship history. I'm 36 years old and I can just barely remember when Tom Watson was winning consistently on tour.

Well, he's held on as long as Norman did last year. Still can't imagine he'll hang on, but it'd be cool if he did. Fisher is looking pretty good, too.

I also like Furyk's chances. No matter what happens tomorrow, Furyk is the type of player that won't be fazed. Plus I picked him at the start of the week.

Olde Tom is hitting it great. People forget just how long he was in his prime; with the modern drivers and modern balls, he's still probably at tour average, distance wise, and he's pounding it straight. I think it's hilarious that he was bombing it past Snedeker in practice rounds (admittedly, the Vandy boy isn't exactly J.B. Holmes off the tee, but still...) Watson's struggles in his later years have been with the putter. I'm definitely rooting for him, but I just don't know how many more 20 and 30 footers he can possibly make. I love the fact that he's banging them in with a "what the hell do I have to lose?" attitude, though.
