If Tiger does not win today, I'll go on record and say he's done...
Through 3 Majors and 3 rounds of the 4th, his scoring averages for each round increase from the 1st round to the 4th (69.25, 70.75, 72.75, 73.33)
Something is clearly in his head as he tries to finish out tournaments.
He has said all year that he's back healthy 100% and that he is trusting his swing. Well, if that is all true and these are the results, that's not going to get it done.
Now, he may win a couple more but he's going to pass Jack with these results. The intimidation factor is no longer there obviously and if it's not, the rest of the world is now good enough to beat him every week.
Good run indeed. Maybe he can pull a Jack and sneak one in on the other side of 40
That was impressive. Most impressive. Rory's A-game is simply better than everyone else's A-game right now, including Tiger.
Tiger wasn't on his A game & hasn't been in awhile. Rory found a groove & played very well. Pretty impressive. Only a few weeks ago or maybe months he wasn't on his A game or anything close though. Golf is a fickle sport. One day you have then the next you don't. It's not an exact science. It takes a lot of skill along with some luck & good breaks to win at their level. I guess over 100 your pros are washed up every week.
If tiger is at his best, there isn't anyone going to beat him, including Rory.Right. You're making my point for me. Nobody has their A-game every week. Tiger dominated golf for years because (a) his brought his A-game more often than anyone else, and (b) he is/was good enough to win with his B or even C-game. Rory hasn't shown the week-to-week consistency yet. I'm willing to give him a pass because he's 23 freaking years old.
What I'm saying is that I would take Rory at his best over anyone else at their best right now, including Tiger. He's now destroyed top-flight fields twice in majors in the last two years. That's impressive.
If tiger is at his best, there isn't anyone going to beat him, including Rory.
If "Tiger at his best" is defined as the 2000 version of Tiger, then yeah, I agree, nobody's beating THAT version of Tiger, including Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan in their primes. I just don't think Tiger 2012 has that level of play in him for 72 holes. Maybe he proves me wrong. I hope he does. I still think he'll win another major or two. I'm just not convinced that he can scale those kinds of heights for a whole week anymore.
I'd agree if he was finishing tied for 35th. But he's contending in every major even when he looks like he's swinging like road kill. I think he's still got another good run in him.
My only issue is that you've been saying that for a long long time now. Starting to think it's never fully going to come together again.
Vijay Singh didn't really get going until he was Tiger's age. Same for Ben Hogan.
