The 2023-2024 Carolina/Duke basketball thread.the"will Duke get a higher seed than 5?" Edition.

No. He’s one year removed from being ACC Champion with the best recruiting class arguably in history coming in. And I imagine they know he’s on a massive learning curve. I think he gets five years regardless

And Davis is the textbook definition of why he’s not on the hot seat next year.
Agree, I think he gets 5 years regardless. If he’s not made a run to a FF in that stretch or if there’s a drop-off within the ACC, then I think you’ll hear some chatter. Even Coach K went from 2016-2021 without a FF.

Should’ve had at least 2, plus a national title in 2019.

This is beyond frustrating. NC State has given Carolina every opportunity to cut this game close with their mistakes. 5 wins in 5 days if they pull this off. That's impressive. Beating two top 10 teams.First ACC tourney title since 1987. Congrats to the Cardiac Pack.

What's everyone's thoughts on the seedings and regions for both Duke and Carolina? Interesting on possible match up against Arizona for UNC. That worked out well.

I think UCONN and UNC make it to the FF easily, while the other two regions will be wildcards.

K had also won 5 national titles prior to 2016. Little different situation.

You say that Scheyer is on a massive learning curve, and I agree. That's the reason why I'm surprised he got the job in the first place. You wouldn't think being the HC at Duke is a "learn on the job" role.

I mean K had just come from West Point with little pedigree about him. To expect Duke to go outside the family would be weirder. They aren’t making a splash hire, they’re looking long term. He’s already got the recruiting and culture down

Duke wasn't Duke when they hired K. Totally different stage in the program.

He already has the culture down? It doesn't seem that way to me. I'll be ecstatic if they continue the current culture.

Yea, look at his recruiting classes. You know culture and Xs and Os are two different things right? No, of course you don’t

It’s different, but they’ll give him time. Coach K is still heavily involved, and he remembers what Tom Butters did for him. I think next year will be a big year for Scheyer. He needs to make some noise with that class coming in and with the guys coming back (Foster, Mitchell?, Stewart). I’d love for McCain to come back but that seems like a pipe dream.

Unless you hire Jay Wright out of retirement there’s no coach out there that meets all the metrics for K. So might as well hire the guy with the best understanding of the program and let him learn the other stuff instead of vice versa

Right. X's and O's are NOT the issue when you have a cancer on your team. That is culture. Carolina had one last year. We sent him to Tucson.

Cancer… that’s fascinating and wild. Bookmarking this for later
