The 2023-2024 Carolina/Duke basketball thread.the"will Duke get a higher seed than 5?" Edition.

1. I don’t understand why the offense goes throw KF. With all the recruiting success they’ve had recently there is no one better? He’s so emotionally scattered it’s hard to know who you’ll get from possession to possession.

2. There seems to be a lot of “me” instead of “we”. The offense doesent seem fluid outside of KF sitting on the end of the bench. Even then it only gets a little better.

3. That team lacks physical and mental toughness. They don’t fight for balls and once they feel the cause is lost they just go through the motions. There is no accountability for anything.

4. Obviously all that coming from a Carolina fan who’s team didn’t sniff the tourney last year is a lot for anyone to stomach but simply put Duke has to much talent for results like that.
I can’t really say you’re wrong about any of this. I think there might be some chemistry issues. I’ve been told that there were some earlier in the year. It seemed to be resolved because Duke had won 16 of 18 or something along those lines, but it appears that they’re a different team than they were a month ago, and not in a good way .

A lady that covers Raleigh and surrounding areas came on 92.7 and basically said they played like they think they’ll win just because they’re Duke. They seemed to be trending up and to fall flat like that is cause for concern. I’m sure that some will probably go full meltdown and call for Sheyer to be fired but that’s crazy talk.

That is crazy talk. He hasn’t even coached in his second NCAA tournament yet. There are something’s I think that could be better, and this roster, while very talented, is largely playing out of position. There were a couple of big misses in the portal that would’ve given Duke a rim protector and rebounder. That’s ultimately Scheyer’s responsibility, but there will always be misses . UNC had some misses last season and then this year hit 2 home runs w/ Ryan and Ingram.

It’s crazy talk, but Scheyer needs a lot of learning on the growing of a team and how to make in game adjustments

Things might be looking good for Carolina and the Final 1 seed as Tennessee is struggling with Miss St. Hopefully UNC doesn't run into a roadblock.

It’s Pitt, UVA/NC State. I think you’re good. I’m okay w/ the Vols getting a 2 in the south if it means potentially playing In Dallas or in the East in Boston instead of going across the country to LA.

I'd look out for St. Mary's in Round 2. They beat Gonzaga 2 out of 3 games this year.
No matter where Duke ends up, nothing will be a gimme. Far from it. One can hope for a more manageable bracket.

I hope Scheyer has the video coordinator put together a montage of everyone making fun of Duke on social media and everywhere else and puts it on loop around the basketball office .

If Bacot continues to show improvement on his post game that’s another angle teams have to defend.

The entire team has committed to the defensive end. Even when they make runs Carolina finds a way to contain it and tighten back up.

If they stay committed to defense this team can go as far as it wants.

South Carolina just extended their coach and how does he show appreciation? Getting run out of the gym by 30.

31, but who’s counting? 😃

Losing on the first weekend

OR

Losing in the title game

Which one is worse for you?

For me it’s losing in the title game. You fight to get all the way there and come up short. Most likely dropping the opening weekend game in the big dance too.

Good luck State hopefully it’ll be a great game but I think the legs start to go and the magic runs out.

If Scheyer doesn't go on a tournament run this year, does he come into Year 3 on something of a hot seat? I know it was politically incorrect to say this in the media since he was hand-picked by K, but I thought he was an interesting direction for Duke to go. That's probably the highest profile job in the sport, stratospheric expectations every year, and they gave it to a 36-year-old with no HC experience.

The same can be said of UNC picking Hubert Davis, but that seems to be working out a little better for them.

No. He’s one year removed from being ACC Champion with the best recruiting class arguably in history coming in. And I imagine they know he’s on a massive learning curve. I think he gets five years regardless

And Davis is the textbook definition of why he’s not on the hot seat next year.

You would have same the same thing about Hubert last year. In fact, some people did (and he was coming off an NCAA Championship Game appearance in his first year as a head coach). I personally think Scheyer is a major drop-off from Coach K, but anyone was going to be a major drop-off from Coach K. He is a very young head coach that needs to be given time to grow into the roll.
