The 2023 March Madness “Other Games” Thread

Neither of these teams match up well against us. FAU is the better team but with our lack of a PG it might be better to play them. Also removes the "historically low seed from metro NYC area" angle. FAU could possibly get hot and shoot the lights out in MSG but they will have to do it while being guarded by the best defense they've ever played against and we won't be running up and down the court we them. We will make them feel our physicality and see how they react. I do wish we had ZZ but Mashack, Vescovi, JJJ, Phillips and Key should be able to stay in front of them.

I don't see what the issue is with the matchup... How are they like Missouri?

Teams generally don't shoot well in MSG.

Does FAU normally play a fast-paced up and down style, or did they just get sucked into that by FDU? Both teams were sloppy at times and undisciplined, kind of like Bruce Pearl teams. We can’t allow FAU to force us into that type of game.

Admiral did the same thing against Kentucky but I guess because it was .3 seconds after the buzzer it’s “not the same.” Such a stupid thing to get mad at lol

Funny you put that throwaway line “not the same” in there. Wasn’t a good look then, not a good look now. And I say this as a 80’s/90’s kid.

Regardless, onward to Thursday!

As the announcers pointed out, you don’t do that when your opponent stops fouling and walks toward their own bench as the clock ticks down to 0:00. But they’re kids. Kids do stupid ****.

well, its also kentucky. Taunting them is one thing, but doing that to FDU? Thats something else.
Lol maybe the dumbest of dumb reasons. Just say you don’t care if Tennessee does it. Because nobody should care when anyone does it. It’s fun. Just like flicking off the center fielder

I’ll just say this; while FAU is a dangerous team they lost 80-67 to a very bad Ole Miss team this year, and lost to a decent UAB team. This team takes a ton of 3s and they make a good amount. In their losses though they have not been good at all from 3. I’m not saying it won’t be a tough game, but I am saying we should win. If we keep our ball pressure the same as it was against Duke then we will beat them. We just have to constantly stay up in their grill, and take advantage of our superior length.

In a hilarious turn of events, Twitter has already turned against FAU and is onboard with Tennessee. They HATE the end of game missed dunk lol. This is gooooood. FAU not the Cinderella anymore.

Everyone to that guy in the FAU locker room:

FAU hasn’t got a clue what they are about to run into on Thursday. Fixin’ to get dragged straight into the mud pit. Tennessee’s size and defense will give them all sorts of problems on both offense and defense. And I really hope that clown tries to flex in front of Uros.

That behavior is actually a good thing for us. They're undisciplined and as you said, they've not been there before.

In Madison Square Garden, they'll be completely out of place. We need to act like we belong, put together an early run or two, and let FAU's inexperience and lack of poise melt them on the big stage.

I don't see them being a problem at all.

Not only did that FAU player attempt that windmill dunk, but he was also seen jawing at the FDU players in the handshake line. I also read that some of their players were gesturing at the crowd when they booed the failed dunk attempt.

Tennessee is going to be America's team in the Sweet 16 at this rate.

The announcers doing the post game said FAU was gonna have 3-4 days to get out the heavy bags and prepare for our physicality. Eezy peezy.

I guess I’m pulling for Indiana. Drop yet another blue blood and maybe the country turns off the Sweet 16. Indiana, UCLA, Michigan State, UConn, and Gonzaga are Blue Blood+.

40-50 years ago and Indiana was more of a blue blood than both Duke and UNC.

I'm saying that the matchup is in our favor. They have one way to beat us and that involves hitting a lot of low percentage shots. We should dominate the paint and the glass and be all over them on the perimeter. FDU's speed and full court pressure could have given our ball handlers some trouble but I don't think that FAU presents the same problem.

Looked like some of the FDU players were discreetly letting him know what they thought of him and his bush league move.
