The All Things Cycling Thread

Well I did end up finishing the 60 miles. It started out wet the first few hours. Not sure how many crashes they had, but I know of 4 people that crashed because of the slick conditions. Overall the ride was good, I felt really bad from about mile 47-51 though. (Miles 41-50 had an elevation gain of 1500ft) HOWEVER, I felt so good when I finished, I know 60 miles is nothing to some people, but I was very excited to say I have done it.

60 miles is a great accomplishment.

They are the tires that came with the bike. 700x25 Specialized Espoir Elite (I do not know much about them) Speaking of them I noticed two holes in the rear tire after yesterdays ride.

Small indentions near each other? If so, they're from the mold used to make the tires.

Fell off a bridge in the race today. 30th place, 6th in my age group. Crappy day on the bike. Very techincal course. My friend won it on a singlespeed 29er he had to borrow from another friend. Ridiculous amount of climbing, log crossings, and ravines. I was in 5th or so for quite a while. Story of my life.

Looks like the mold holes. See how they're relatively symmetrical? Nothing to worry about. My Continental GP4000s have those, but they're closer together. Your other tire should have them, too.

Can't say I've ever done this.

Full story: I had settled in at a good pace with about 6 other guys and we were cranking away. I was in the back since I had just caught them. About a mile late the group rolls over this bridged turn, the guy directly in front of me slipped and fell right off of it. He was okay, I kept going, and I told the medical people that were about 100' up the trail that he had fallen and may need medical attention. Then about another 100' I hit a bridge over a small ravine and my front tire slipped out and I went off. Right over the bars. I got up and right back to my pace, but I was hurting bad. I reached down to grab a drink of water and my bottle was gone. My race was done at that point so I just pedalled to the finish. The last climb was terrible.

I started in 4th, but almost immediately had shifting problems and dropped waaaaay back. Turns out that the sliding dropouts on my frame keep moving. Climbing is almost impossible with a rear wheel that isn't straight in relation to the frame.

done this during a ride but never a race. caught myself with my chin. hurt a bit but finished the ride.

I just have a nice big bruise on my thigh and my right side is sore as all hell. There were 22 log-overs and 18 bridges... as well as extremely technical ascents and descents. I was able to out sprint someone for 30th place...
