Beautiful outside. Busting out the road bike for the first time this year. A bit windy and I've already run 30 minutes of stairs this morning...

Still no box from Ribble. It came in a package instead.

This time (unlike my previous UK orders) they had a customs declaration on the outside where it lists the value of the contents.

Doesn't that make it more likely for theft?

Probably, yes, but it also means it should arrive faster because it would be less likely to get held up in customs.

15 miles. Wet. Windy.

Not feeling the greatest today and it's supposed to snow again tonight. Suppose I'll grab a bike and go for a cruise around town tonight, just playing around until the rain/snow starts to fly.

Worked up a sweat out there!

Supposed to rain tomorrow and turn cold.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Bike. Soon.

What gear do I need, boys and girls? I think I'm buying a hybrid.

Why a hybrid? They're a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Get a specific bike for the type of riding you want to do. Get bike, bike shorts, helmet, gloves.

If you're going to get hit, this is the way to go (at 0:22).

I'm going to be doing some road biking and mountain biking. So...

Hm... a hybrid bike doesn't really handle mountain bike trails at all. Light dirt or gravel paths are fine, but off road stuff no. And they're relatively sliw compared to a road bike. Maybe try a cyclocross bike. They're more of a road bike that can handle trail duty. I use mine on local singletrack without any issues, but it does take a little more skill than a mountain bike with suspension.

Another option would be to get a 29er mountain bike with a fork that locks out. Have two sets of tires, one for trails and one for road use.
