The All Things Cycling Thread

That's a goal of mine to do a century ride one day. I'm just getting started tho. 7.5 hours seems like pretty good time

It was relatively slow for me. Could have gone faster if I had prepared for it by taking enough food and water. I think my fastest 100 is somewhere in the 5.25 hour area. Just under 20mph avg.

so I'm really starting to get into my road bike. Going to my parents out in nowhereville's VA to ride back roads and what not. Excited to bring her to TN in a week and a half to tackle some hills.

But I still feel like such a noob. What type of cadence should I be looking for? I typically average around 90 here in the flats of Virginia Beach. But traffic is so crazy here I'm limited where I feel comfortable going just yet.

90 is a good cadence. I actually run much lower than that but for some reason I can't get my legs to spin that fast.

They caught the guy. He's been charged with everything possible....and may face additional federal charges since it happened on the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Hopefully the guy he hit isn't too hurt and I hope they make an example out of the driver. More often than not people get away with this crap.

He was treated and released.... thankfully he only had some scrapes and bruises..... it could have been so much worse

What an ass of a driver. That was definitely on purpose. That said, just because you are allowed to use the full lane on that park road, doesn't mean it is a good idea. The truck that breezed by was pissed as well, laying down on the horn. Dude was riding almost on the yellow line. Yes he can do that, but I wouldn't recommend it. Glad he is ok.

Safest to ride two-by, though. Drivers should not be jackasses.

Turns out this a**hat was the Dean of Students at University School Nashville. That infuriates me further

Y'all know if any good training regimens? They have the couch to 10K for runners. Y'all know anything like that for cycling?

A cyclist was hit on 8th Ave on Sunday as well. But from what I read he was riding a bit reckless. The Natchez story is crazy, and thankfully they had a camera which made it possible to get the tags.

So you're suggesting not even ride a bike on the road?

Not even close. I ride streets myself. I am suggesting riding with the expectation that drivers do not like you, resent you being on the road in the first place because they might have to slow down, and giving yourself the best odds of staying alive by riding very alert and not antagonizing drivers. It doesn't take much to piss them off, you know this.

The guy in the video was having horns blared at him. The truck driver was pissed, the next guy just hit him on purpose. In this case maybe not riding almost on the dividing line would have spared him the irrational assault by an ass in a car.
