The All Things Cycling Thread

I'm going to shoot for another 100 mile attempt on Friday. This time I'll get out on my bike at 7AM and do it solo. Last time I had to wait for my friend...

46 miles in the heat yesterday. Got dropped by a guy riding a singlespeed who did a 105 mile race on Sunday. Very humbling. He was the local club president for 3 years.

Yesterday was the toughest so far. Even the breeze was hot. I probably won't ride again until friday.

Thor Hushovd topped out at 69MPH while descending the Col du Aubisque during today's TdF stage on his way to victory... He's the world champion and is also a designated sprinter. How the hell does a sprinter (a) climb that mountain and (b) how does he even catch a guy that is a designated climber that had nearly 2 minutes on him at the top of the climb? That would be why he's my favorite pro rider.

Now... Onto my embarrassing day... I went out for some 5 on, 3 off intervals with a 55 year old man this afternoon. He dropped me and left me in the dust on the very first interval. To be fair, he still races in pro/1/2 classification. And I finished 30 miles in just under 2 hours to his almost 50 in that same time.

:eek:hmy: when you joyride with people, is it customary to leave people that arent as fast as you?

oh my bad. i meant a non competitive ride. dont know why i put joyride.

To answer your question, no. But the ride yesterday wasn't like that. I was just along for the ride. It was understood that I would get dropped at some point, but it happened much earlier than I had thought. He was in a hurry to get home for a birthday party so there was no way he could wait for me.

I just need to keep pushing myself and losing weight. I'll get there eventually. This off season I will put in an astronomical amount of work in the gym to build leg muscle. Can't really do that while riding all of the time.

im hoping to get a membership this winter and do pretty much the same, in hopes i can get a decent bike and start cycling by spring. im kinda hung up on Treks, so im hoping to find a great deal on a used one in late winter.

Trek is only a sticker package. You can get basically the same bike for less money from nearly every other manufacturer because they don't have to pay for millions of dollars worth of advertising like Trek does. Don't get hung up on a Trek just yet.

12 miles in the woods on Friday evening. Wanted to ride longer but had promised the misses I'd take her to dinner.

25 easy miles sunday morning. Rode to a coffee shop. Had an espresso and crossiant. Then rode home.

headed to knoxville this weekend. thinking about taking my bike and riding haw ridge.

Thor is a beast, he and Jens Voight are definitely two of my favorites in the peloton.

Heat index of 116* tomorrow when I get off work. There's no point in even thinking about riding. If it was 116* dry heat, then I'd consider it. The humidity just does a lot of damage. Actually, it'd be a great day to jump on the spin bike at the gym.

I work downtown and have been running in the mornings, but would like to maybe switch the workout over to biking. I am a noob for sure. What would you all recommend bike wise for this type of riding? Is there some hybrids out there to where I could do some light trail stuff if I ever wanted?

trivol and volatile are both very knowledgeable and will pick up this question when they pop in. imo, it def sounds like you would be best suited for a hybrid, if you want to hit a trail, but i think they have to be well groomed paths/trails.

What kind of trails are you talking? You can grab a hybrid/fitness bike but they're not made for much trail usage. Maybe light gravel/dirt, but that's it.

Just went tubeless on my mountain bike. In. excited to see the difference
