The All Things Cycling Thread

The sun is so bright it is literally zapping all of my energy. Not to mention there are some steep hills here. Hit some gravel trails, too. Definitely getting a cyclocross bike. It's addicting.

bailed on the 78 mile ride and attempted a 70 mile ride from the house. rain delayed me for an hour so i only rode 58 miles. climbed a mountain.

I eclipsed the 50mph barrier and hit 54 on Saturday. Unfortunately, I had to climb back up the hill.

Nice. Going back up sucks.

8 more miles on the mtn bike. Heat is brutal

New outlook on hills: They're not in the way of my destination, they are the way to my destination. The journey is the destination.

30 miles yesterday morning. Great ride almost perfect weather.

14 miles in right now. Rolling hills, high wind. Misery

Edit: 32 miles. Friend flatted right after I posted that. Had to run back to town to get my car while he waited because my CO2 failed. Went solo for the last 18 and went fast.

Can't decide whether I want to go to Grand Rapids, MI for the USA National Criterium Championships this weekend or go to Madison, WI next weekend for the Heartland Velo Show, which is basically a bike art show (custom frames and other stuff). I'll probably end up in Madison, just because it would be a heck of a lot cheaper to travel there.

Yep learned the hard way that you get what you pay for with tires! Got tired of changing flats during every ride or calling the wife to pick me up

Alright guys and gals. After an extremely long hiatus due to knee problems, I'm getting back on my mountain bike this weekend. Heading to the shop to get a disc replaced on it and the brakes tuned up. Quick question for anyone who is really into mountain biking, is it worth selling my bike and upgrading to a 29er? I mean, do the benefits and supposed efficiency greatly outweigh those on a standard MB? Thanks...

Got lost on a new route today. Only 20 miles. Incredibly boring. I'm really tired of the endless cornfields here. Stoked for Wisconsin next weekend.

Every friend that I have that has bought one has loved it and said it's a great improvement. My next mtb will be a 29er.

We're selling the hell out of 29'ers at the shop. They're the new rage. I don't know much about mountain bikes, but my next bike may just be a 29'er single speed.

check out Gary Fisher. Think dude practically invented mountain bikes and then did it again with 29ers. The Superfly is sick.

Also Bicycling magazine just did a review of the top 29ers from race to entry level in last months issue.

8 miles in the woods then my chain broke. Fixed it. Headed back to the car. Chain broke again. Walked last 100 yards. Realized that my shifter cable exploded out of the housing. Never seen anything like that.

Thanks guys. I'm looking at upgrading to either a Felt or Cannondale 29er (probably the former due to $ haha).

Go Felt, they're knocking everything out of the park this year. I just got a sneak peak of the 2012 full line. :boobies: Plus, they encompass the entire line. Look for Kona, also. They're pretty sick for 2012. I think Kona makes the best mountain bikes out there.

Several years ago I would have recommended a Gary Fisher, but now that is pretty pointless since it's just Trek with a different sticker package. Buy for components.

I've always thought Felt made a great road bike but I don't see many of their mountain bikes. Are they trying to make a bigger push to that market?

I thought Trek just bought out Fisher this year? Anything 2010 or older would still be a true Fisher design.

Santa Cruz & Giant also get consistent high reviews. I see a ton of them out on the trails.

Felt entered the mountain bike market a few years ago. Their bikes were decent and I really like my 2010 model, but like volatile and some others I've talked to in the shops have said, their new models this year are absolutely sick. I'm seriously considering selling my old Felt for the entry level 29er.
