Never done a road race. the idea of riding in a pack where people are focused on their own goal has never appealed to me.

The speed is my addiction. The speed of a rolling peloton would be intense. After watching the end of yesterday's Giro stage, I'm afraid I'll be the one to cause the major crash rather than be in it. Crashing is the risk I take riding a bike and I've come to accept that. I'm going to go down at some point.

Isn't that true with every race?

Difference with mountain bike is that there often isn't a group for very long.

Not necessarily. I race myself.

As well as answer yourself, I see.

I ripped apart my mountain bike for basic maintenance and deep cleaning this morning... the chain is 100% rusted thanks to that crap. My left LX shifter pod was so full of mud it stopped working. Had to disassemble it and clean it out. Stainless shifter cables needed replaced because of the iron deposits that the water left behind. Cassette had iron deposit on it also. I'd hate to see what the inside of my frame might look like...

This. I'm more worried about over competitive guy who wrecks the field trying to move from 79th to 74th
place. 2 weeks ago they had a disco themed Wednesday night mtb race. $10 entry fee and winner gets a fake vinyl record award. one expert acted like it was a big time race and wrecked. Broke collarbone, hand, 3 ribs & punctured a lung. I dont want to be around that guy in a group.

Yeah, that is a bit worrying. Two years ago I saw a woman fly into the crowd at the QC Criterium because someone crashed in the final turn as they headed the bunch sprint. Massive pile up, she landed on her head. Had to be airlifted to Iowa City hospitals.

I use my moped in bicycle races.

UCI actually checks bikes for motors before major races... :ermm:

Broke another seatpost. Bontrager post rusted out at the seat clamp. Last time I ever use a Bontrager part. Found a 400mm Origin8 post that better work until I can get the funds for a Cane Creek Thudbuster post.

Cat 1 guy that shops here crashed racing in FL over the weekend. His bike is effed up. He's buying a Pinarello Dogma2 when he gets back to town. His body is pretty messed up, too.

Second to last in the TT. Forgot to mount my water bottle cage after cleaning my bike. Needed water about a minute into the lap as you start by climbing a huge hill. Stupid me.

105 all the way. I cannot stand SRAM's shifters. Apex may be a few grams lighter, but 105 is way more user friendly. It's also easier for your mechanic to get Shimano components more precisely set. I'm not a fan of any SRAM shifters, mountain bike or road. Their wheels are nice, though. So are their Avid, Truvativ, and RockShox parts.

Ride #1 for the day.... 6.8mi with 2205 ft of elevation gain.

I've been toning up.

Like climbing a mountain. There's mountains in Iowa?

Really hilly mtn bike trail. Loved it. So challenging. Left there and went to Sylvan Island, which is flat but very, very technical. Did 6 miles there and was bored compared to Illiniwek. My legs are toast right now. Just woke up from a 2.5 be nap.
