The All Things Cycling Thread

I just passed 2,000 miles and have only done a couple rides > 40 miles. So yes, lots of shorter rides add up.

I'm at 340mi on the road bike, probably 150 on my mountain bike... Crap weather and Achilles tendonitis sucks. Didn't experience much pain in my Achilles after yesterday's ride. I made some saddle adjustments that seem to have helped a lot. Still a little tight, though.

Never had much of a problem there.

Right knee has been acting up a bit the last couple weeks. Not sure what's up.

Bought the Hardrock 29er. Sad day when I noticed a sticker that said handmade in China. I just assumed nice-ish bikes would be something other than China made.

Went with my girlfriend to shop for a bike for her.

The bikes these days are amazingly light and cool looking.

Most bikes are made in Taiwan these days. China, Taiwan, and Combodia makes bikes of the same quality as America used to. Want a bike made in America? Prepare to pay at least $1350 for a frame only. My Rocky Mountains were handmade in Canada... Paid $27 and $15.50 for the two frames I own. Thank you eBay. My Felt was made in Cambodia, it's every bit the quality as the Rocky Mountains. Beware of cheap Chinese carbon frames, though. The price is attractive, but not after they delaminate or just snap. Buying a Specialized I would not balk one bit at quality manufacturing. The only issue I've ever seen from them is that they never seem to come with a component package that all works together 100%.

Officially signed up to race tomorrow. Exciting. Throwing some 2.3" tires on for the muddy conditions I'm bound to encounter.

No, there aren't many bicycles made in the U.S. anymore, at least not road bikes. As long as you stick with a major brand (and not an unknown eBay special) you're fine.

Funny, a lot of Apple products are made in China (or at least parts of them are) and you don't hear many people questioning the quality of those.

So seriously thinking about dumping my effort completely into mountain bike racing. There just aren't enough road races here to make the effort worth my while. There are 3 or 4 race series in Iowa and Illinois to make it worth it. I've yet to do a road race yet, though. Looking ahead to possibly getting a Felt Edict 29'er next winter/spring. Maybe an aluminum Virtue 26" if I don't cut a lot of weight for the carbon Edict.
