The All Things Cycling Thread

4.5 hrs, 4 laps, 30+ total miles, 108 degrees. Race over. Had time for another lap but fell apart.

Pretty respectable for an amateur on a mtb, depending on terrain.

Oh, a mountain bike.

This especially with 108° temps. Top 2 only did 7 laps or 55 miles. They had time for more but mutually decided it wasnt worth it.

I'm of the personality that I push as hard, as far. Is have gone the extra lap if I had a chance to win. I would have gone too far into the red.

I stopped sweating, got cold chills, had trouble breathing. It was time to stop.

During the first .25 miles of my last race it was all road before turning into the single track. I started mid pack, ended up 4th entering the woods. Killed myself way too early, I popped at the first major climb.

I always lay back at the beginning of a race. You can't win it in the first mile but you can lose it.

It was funny to watch people sprinting to warm up Saturday morning. It was 80° and you're racing for 5 hours. Does a person really need to sprint for 15 minutes to warm up?

Stupid humidity ate me alive this morning. One lap, then I was done. Could not breathe. Think I'll take the road bike out tonight for a spin.

I was hoping to put in 30 miles today but I had to stop at 20 because of the heat. First time I've let it keep me from riding. Absolutely miserable out there today.

Broadsided a kid on a BMX bike at 26mph, sprinting uphill. Kid rode right into my path. Lucky I didn't taco my boss's Dura-Ace front wheel or sheer off my carbon steerer tube. Just a bruise from a handlebar.

VV, how do you like your White Industries hubs? I'm thinking about lacing my HED rims to a set. They're reasonably cheap compared to Chris King or Phil Wood hubs, and seem to get good reviews.

They seem fine to me. I hadn't had an issue with them, at least not until the wheel started acting funny, which may or may not be a problem with the hub.

I'd buy them again (assuming the price was good).

HTFU.

I was quite proud of myself for doing a 30-mile ride last weekend when we set the all-time high record (105F).

Of course that was dry heat. Humidity is more typical, now. I was out for a shorter run today, in the upper 90s, and sweat in the eyes became a problem. That's usually my weakest link when riding in warm weather.

You haven't had that problem checked out yet?
