The All things Lane Kiffin Car Accident Thread (merged)

Oh ok ... so b/c some recruiting site doesn't rank them with as many 4 and 5* recruits, then it makes that OK. That program isn't as important as UT basically right? You can't have it both ways bud. The situations are not different. To be clear though, I don't care that Dooley accepted the job for the same reason that I don't blame Kiffin. It's their careers, and they are both making moves that, in their opinion, will make them happier and more fulfilling.

Keep stroking Kiffy, USC needs real fans now, as most will jump to UCLA after this mess is over. They are some fickle somebody's out west.

yes, they are. dooley and kiffin both left their program at a critical time during the offseason but that's about as far as the similarities go for the most part other than maybe a few decommitments. other than that, there's alot of other variables that make the situations differ from one another.

Brilliant... I state a bunch of facts that people don't like and suddenly I'm "stroking Kiffy" b/c I'm not following the ignorant crowd that hates Kiffin. Awesome.

Like I said, I'm all ears. You've yet to tell me how they're different.

How is it different? What else should I consider? I'm all ears. In fact, one could argue that Dooley leaving LA Tech is worse than Kiffin leaving UT b/c of Dooley being their AD as well.

you're missing the point. i'm not arguing which situation is worse or which is better, just that they're not completely identical like you're impying....which they're not.

So then I'm assuming that you're equally as sickened toward Dooley... you know, out of principle?

Like I said, I'm all ears. You've yet to tell me how they're different.

-kiffin abandoned an entire football program and fanbase after being there a mere 14 months. dooley was at least at tech for 3 years

-tennessee had several big name propects decommit after kiffin jumped ship. la tech's class is filled with a bunch of 1 and 2 stars and is ranked around 78th in the country. and while some may decommit, it won't hurt them as bad as it will ut because lower tier prospects should be easier to replace.

like you said in a previous post....dooley was AD at tech so they're having to replace both positions. ut isn't (which may or may not be a good thing depending on how you look at it)

-pretty sure dooley's previous staff isn't rumored to be talking to previous la tech commitments convincing them to come to ut. the same can't be said for the other end

......to name a few off the top of my head

Dooley built a program at La Tech and moved on, X tried his best to ruin a program and moved on. Ruston to Knoxville/ Knoxville to Pasadena, big difference.

Sorry off topic. I like where this thread is heading. To X's beheading!

LA Tech isn't a destination job. I think that the fans, players, and administration understand that any coach with success or another opportunity will leave.

UT was lied to. He talked of building a program, and left after one season.

......just a few things off the top of my head. i can keep going if you want.

Dooley was there for 3 years b/c he didn't have a "USC offer" out there for him. I'm sure if UT had offered him 14 months into his tenure at LA Tech, he would've turned it down, right?:glare:

Again, I don't see how a kid's * really has anything to do with this. 3* recruits for LA Tech are like 4 and 5* recruits for UT. So, yeah, I would bet losing 3* recruits would have a negative impact on them too. Regardless, if this is all based on honesty and integrity, this shouldn't even be an issue.

And finally, I'm not going to deny that calling recruits for UT isn't dirty. It is. But, that has nothing to do with the actual departure.

So, keep going b/c none of those will fly other than the AD issue which, as I stated, could be used in an argument for how Dooley "screwed" LA Tech more than Kiffin did to UT.

ditto. it's a big school and a small school. you shouldn't even compare the two. it has nothing to do with tech being inferior, it's just the way it is. it should be apples and oranges as far as the variables in each situation goes.

And UT wasn't a destination job for Kiffin. What's your point? Kiffin never said it was when it came to having an offer of the USC job sitting in front of him.

He built a program? Go back and look at his record. It's not that much better than what was there beforehand. Regardless, I'm not saying it's not a good hire. I still think it could be.

And Kiffin "tried his best" to screw UT? Really? So, I'm guessing that trying to get the best recruiting classes and hire the best assistant coaches is terrible.

And, like I said above, to you it might seem that Ruston to Knoxville is a much bigger move than Knoxville to LA. But, to Kiffin, it wasn't, and that's what mattered in this. I know that all UT fans think UT and Knoxville is the greatest program and city on earth, but it's not. And, that was especially true for a guy like Kiffin.

like i said, it basically all boils down to it being a little program/big program comparison. anybody will tell you that they're both just completely different from one another and should be analyzed as such.

Dooley represented La Tech with a lot more class, and actually respected the fans and the program he was genuine. He wasn't at La Tech poppin off and getting recruiting violations giving that program more of a black eye, then absurdly proclaiming that he left the program in better shape than when he got there....Not to mention Kiffin was promising championships to fans and players and didn't even respect UT enough to try to deliver....He has no integrity Sarkisian was offered before Kiffin, and I'm guessin USC is his dream job too, and he turned it down because he actually believed in his program...And Tennessee to USC is much more of a lateral move than La Tech is up to Tennessee in terms of the overall tradition and landscape of college football

I know what you said. You're saying it's all relative. And, I'm saying that if people want to get all moral and up on their high horse and dismiss Kiffin b/c he's a weasel and all that, then a principle is a principle is a principle. No? I just don't get the double standard being set here.

I was speaking about their athletic program, not so much as the football program. Saban couldnt recruite to Ruston, there is around 20k people there and even less to do there, I lived near there in the early 80's, its a sht hole.

AD's are a dime a dozen, and to get a HC to go there wont be a big problem either. I wouldnt lose alot of sleep over Techs probs, they will be an easy fix.

Biting tongue...I had something else to say but I dont feel you are ban worthy. Goodnight

Well, if he did a great job building up the program, then he might not be that replaceable right? There's a lot more terrible ADs than great ones.

My simple point was just that Dooley left LA Tech high and dry as well, and people seem to justify that. Like I said, I personally don't blame either. I would've made the same decision as Kiffin and Dooley.

why are you even on this board? dooley is our new coach.
kiffin screwed the program, it really is that simply. go to the usc boards and praise him or something. but go no one here cares.

I agree, it seems like all the UT people are just in denial about how good he left the program here and just want to take cheap shots at him.

This might be the stupidest statement I have read on Volnation in some time, and thats saying something.

How can anyone possibly think our program is in better shape now? I don't care who you are, you can't come to a place for 14 months leave 3 weeks before signing day and claim you left the place in better shape.

Sound like you are firmly on board the USC Lane Train. A word of caution though, the conductor is a maniac.

They may start digging for info on the departed coach but they may uncover some things on some current and former coaches as well. This whole thing could blow up and make UT look really bad. There have been rumors of cover-ups and hidden secrets for a long time.

whatta heard?

Since I have lived here since 1977 and I have been coaching Football in the area for a long time I have heard alot. I have no proof of any of it and to be honest its none of my business, so I will not share any of those stories on here. I am just stating that every school across the nation has things that they have worked hard to keep quiet and maybe that would be best. Having TMZ in here, who have no problem with reporting any stories, just may oncover things that for UT would be better left covered.

Uncover it all man...LK, O, Fulmer, former players...at this point I'm all for getting the dirt out and starting fresh with new coaches that seem to want to do things the right way...and if they start screwing around with drugs, boozing, and co-eds...then dish it on them too. I loved the college life as much as the next guy, but when you graduate and mature and get a bit older, then its time to leave that party lifestyle behind and become responsible role models for the youth of today. These coaches are not just there to coach football - at least that's what they tell parents. They come into your living room and sit there and tell you and your parents that you guys can trust the coaching staff to look after you kid for the next 4 years and they will help guide them and make quality men out of momma's boy. Parents are being sold on coaches not only coaching, but mentoring and aiding in instilling values and helping their teens turn into young men. So if these coaches are dropping the ball on this, in the past or currently, by their own poor examples and scandalous behavior...then lets dish the dirt on them...hold them responsible....if they know this stuff will get out, eventually, hopefully, it gives them pause to think twice before doing something embarrassing to themselves or the university they represent

ugh. it's not about a double standard being set. if you actually believe that kiffin's and dooley's departures are both completely identical to one another than this conversation is hopeless. there's a difference between a coach at a big school jilting the university by leaving for another big program and a guy at a small school leaving for a big program.
