The All things Lane Kiffin Car Accident Thread (merged)

Since I have lived here since 1977 and I have been coaching Football in the area for a long time I have heard alot. I have no proof of any of it and to be honest its none of my business, so I will not share any of those stories on here. I am just stating that every school across the nation has things that they have worked hard to keep quiet and maybe that would be best. Having TMZ in here, who have no problem with reporting any stories, just may oncover things that for UT would be better left covered.

Uncover it all man...LK, O, Fulmer, former players...at this point I'm all for getting the dirt out and starting fresh with new coaches that seem to want to do things the right way...and if they start screwing around with drugs, boozing, and co-eds...then dish it on them too. I loved the college life as much as the next guy, but when you graduate and mature and get a bit older, then its time to leave that party lifestyle behind and become responsible role models for the youth of today. These coaches are not just there to coach football - at least that's what they tell parents. They come into your living room and sit there and tell you and your parents that you guys can trust the coaching staff to look after you kid for the next 4 years and they will help guide them and make quality men out of momma's boy. Parents are being sold on coaches not only coaching, but mentoring and aiding in instilling values and helping their teens turn into young men. So if these coaches are dropping the ball on this, in the past or currently, by their own poor examples and scandalous behavior...then lets dish the dirt on them...hold them responsible....if they know this stuff will get out, eventually, hopefully, it gives them pause to think twice before doing something embarrassing to themselves or the university they represent

I'm with VolAlum, and hope it comes out
since Kiffin's the freshest story, hopefully any reports will focus on him

Dooley is a diamond in the rough, working his way up the ranks. Kiffin was handed the keys to a top 15 program and left after 14 months for a top 3 program. You can say it is "moving up the ranks" as well... but it is in no way the same as Dooley's departure. 3 years > 14 months

Do universities ever drug screen coaches and/or do background checks?

I think staff in the AD should all be willing to do random drug checks. It may have been problematic for some former staff members.

Alcoholism and drug abuse are a big problem in coaching, almost as bad as in the legal profession.

What would be the purpose of the AD staffers being submitted to random drug testing? Are they fulfilling some safety-sensitive function to which most are unaware? If not, such a stance is indefensible.

How have you formed such opinions on the prevalancy of drug and alcohol abuse in the coaching and legal professions, respectively?

I'm obviously not keen on Hamilton, but this guy using his name, by association, does him more damage than I ever could.

It's one thing to be a fan of a coach, player, or team, but how can someone be a 'fan' of the AD and then represent the man so poorly?

I do not know anything about the car accident and co-eds, but here is what I do know about Kiffin and his lack of integrity:

The night before the Alabama game, Kiffin was popping Ambien and downing a bottle of vodka, and trying to get laid. He was bashing Nick Saban's parenting skills, saying that Saban's son was in rehab b/c he spent too much time coaching and not enough time with his family.

He was saying that UT players have fun in the team meetings and they like coming to practice b/c it's "fun", unlike Bama's practices and meetings that are strict and rigid.

Maybe if Kiffin was more focused on the game instead of getting drunk and trying to get laid, UT would have had a better shot at Bama. Maybe if there was more focus on discipline on the team and less focus on "fun", we would have won more games and had less players in jail.

Honestly, I do not see how he is such a "great" recruiter. He is really not that smooth, he stutters when he speaks, and he never looks anyone in the eye when he talks to them.

His representation of Hammy is akin to a recruiting wonk recommending a new (female) strip club.

Yeah, Kiffin's vodka made Daniel Lincoln suck. Great theory.

Interesting, but I doubt if it can be positively confirmed as being true, outside of your recounting of those events.

Am I wrong?

Yeah, Kiffin's vodka made Daniel Lincoln suck. Great theory.

But it is equally impossible for you to assert that they are mutually exclusive of one another, if true.

I'm surprised that you left such a gaping hole of presumption in your argument.

No, wait.

Maybe he would thought to himself, "Gee, my kicker has missed one field goal and had another blocked today. Maybe I should use the 45 seconds left on the clock to try to get closer or maybe even get a touchdown."

Maybe his cloudy thoughts were due to not enough sleep or too much booze....while he didn't miss the field goal, he certainly did not give the Vols the greatest chance to win the game based on the previous events of the day...

Good counter-point, Britlee - and welcome to VN.

Unfortunately, as you've presented a cogent counter-argument to Hat's quip, he won't likely respond. It's at those points where I think he prefers to simply ignore you, and not respond. Just FYI.

Thread title says it has legs. What makes you think it has legs?
These guys?

I can confirm this is usually what happens (see this thread)

Wait...you guys haven't seen the deadspin.com article and picture? There is a pic of Kiffin, Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin and coach David Reaves at a party talking to some girls and Kiffy is drinking. I'm pretty sure you won't catch CDD doing this!

There is zero wrong with that picture. There could be similar pics taken of most coaches.

If by "positively confirm", you mean photos or tape recording, I do not have those. However I was in the room and heard it come directly out of his mouth.

How dare you imply Kid Gynomite would ever be in public with a woman not his wife or mother? Coach Doofus is a candidate for sainthood. Why must you sully his candidacy?

TMZ and Bitten & Bound have $10,000 for you if you have the guts to go on camera.
