The All things Lane Kiffin Car Accident Thread (merged)

Kiffin being a womanizing dirtbag is not going to destroy the program if it is true.

Hamilton flushing cocaine for Orgeron would destroy the program, but it never happened. We hired mercenaries, they acted like spoiled children. They may have had borderline personality disorder and in the case of O, manic depression.

Sexual dalliances of coaches and their wives do not interest the NYT. There is not a multi racial angle here that I am aware of, so their Yankee race baiting spidey sense is not tingling.

Whoever wrote that Pat and Pearl would gladly work under Fulmer....hahahhhahahahahahahahhaahhahaahahah

So, if what is being reported about a booster paying for a loft/apartment downtown for Kiffin to use is true, that won't reflect poorly on UT? I personally don't think it's true, but if it is, it would definitely hurt the program.

If all of this turns out to be true and you still want to believe what you just typed, then you're the most naive person alive.

You're the one that wants to believe some giant conspiracy theory involving boosters, the athletic department and Kiffin. I personally don't see it as irrational to think that maybe Kiffin didn't inform Hamilton about his "transgressions." Most people don't. Especially dishonest people like Kiffin.

Even if Kiffin decided to open up to Hamilton about his affairs (unlikely), Hamilton has plausible deniability. Doesn't affect UT.

I believe Kiffin's "rendezvous apartment" is the Cook Loft, located at 722 South Gay Street. Here's the link:

Hamilton's time is over. He has wanted to bring in all his own coaches since he was hired. It stared with Bruce Pearl, who is one of the best coaches, but the only way Hamilton knew about him was because Ernie Grunfield kept calling him about Pearl and he finally responded. He fired Delmonico who got to the World Series every 4 years and had a girlfriend in every city. But he replaced him with a coach who has done nothing in 2 years and may be a little better this year, but don't count on it. He fired Fulmer and replaced him with the fiasco of all fiascoes ... Lane Kiffin. And Hamilton said he was PUTTING HIS CAREER ON THE LINE WITH THE HIRE OF LANE KIFFIN. Hamilton should be the next one fired. Money had to be borrowed to pay off Buzz Peterson, Phillip Fulmer, and for the remodeling of Neyland Stadium ... and now the Kiffin mess. Haslam, Goodfriend, Thorton, and Hand (UT's BIG contributors) need to wake up and hire Phillip Fulmer as Athletic Director. There would not be a better fund raiser than Fulmer and he gets along great with Summit and Pearl. The head of any organization is responsible for his coaches and the Kiffin debacle is totally on Mike Hamilton's shoulders. We all wish Derek Dooley well. Let's get on the FIRE HAMILTON BANDWAGON and put Phil Fulmer in as Athletic Director.

Enough already, geez. X didn't buy the VI house until May. He had to sleep somewhere, be it office, hotel or someone else's pad. This whole "a booster paid for a place for X" is probably a stretch. Letting him use the place at his discretion sounds plausible, especially if it wasn't someone's primary residence. If X wanted to turn it into a hookup spot that's his problem.

Phillip Fulmer as AD would be a train wreck. His loyalty and politicking would prevent him from making decisions in the best interest of UT athletics.

This should be evident from his decision making processes on the sidelines.

What most people do not realize is that the days of retiring old football coaches into the position of AD are over for the most part. College athletics, football in particular, are big business these days. AD's for school's like UT are the equivalent to a CEO in a fortune 500 company.

Hamilton is not going anywhere at the moment. If Haslam and the BOT wanted Fulmer in the AD, he would have been there the day after Kiffin left and Cutcliffe would be the new HC.

Exactly. Some booster that had a condo for game weekends probably let Kiffin use it until his family could find a "permanent" residence... and probably thought he was only using it as a place to sleep. Nothing wrong with that. No controversy there. No cover up.

If you'd read any of my previous posts, you would know that I don't believe most of this except for maybe the drunk driving deal. I'm just playing the "what if?" game, and IF this stuff is true, it would severely damage this program. Hamilton works for the boosters. He does pretty much what they tell him. So, you better believe that if some booster(s) were doing something like this, they told him to keep his mouth shut.

And, let's just say that we live in that fairy-tale land where Hamilton and all the boosters are completely oblivious to this stuff (if it's true), do you think ESPN is going to harp on that or on UT's downward spiral over the last 6 months? I'm sure the parents of recruits would be thrilled about a deal like this going on either blatantly in the open or behind the backs of Hamilton and the rest of the administration/boosters. It would not be good, trust me.

Somewhere in between... A college AD is nowhere near a fortune 500 company, but is certainly a business and needs a competent business leader. Not just a place for coaches that are forced into retirement.

What you said might be true, but what do you want to bet that ESPN wouldn't paint that same picture if the words "loft paid for by UT booster" came out with this story?

If not Fulmer for AD, then who?? I'm sick of Hamilton and the millions this guy has cost the University. Any ideas????

The millions that he has cost us? How about you go back and check the difference in revenue when he took the job and now. I assure you he has netted us far more than he has lost us.

It would hurt USC and Kiffin a lot more than it hurts us. I don't think recruits are going to think "you know, I really like Tennessee and the coaching staff there, but that guy that used to coach there was a sleaze so I'm going to go elsewhere."

And quite honestly, if there was a cover up, it should come out. Hamilton, just like Kiffin is not above the rules, and should be punished accordingly if he broke them. You should never put yourself in a position where you are afraid of facts about you coming out. But I just don't see that. Hamilton can't keep a coaching search secret just a few hours in. No way he could be involved in some massive cover up conspiracy for months. I'm guessing the only people aware were the parties involved and probably their close friends that they may have shared it with.

It'd be the equivalent of hiring a fired EVP to the CEO position. Though the pay scales are inverted.

If former CPF were executive material, he would have known he was passed by prior to mid 2005 and would have lobbied for the AD job on his own.

Now I don't think he deserves it or is competent to have it.

do you idiots think that *****ing about the story will stop it now? shut up already

Yes, I'm sure that a bunch of people on a message board that have zero evidence will cause this to make the national media. Get a grip. But, I will say that for those people who have called TMZ and other gossip sites are not helping. That is true.

I think Hamilton is a good AD. The one negative I would assign to MH is his contract extension of Fulmer in 07. It was premature and undeserved. He should have AT LEAST won the SEC before being given the extension. That's a given.

What other problems do you have with him?

I'm just saying that this stuff happened while he was at UT (if it happened), and ESPN and other media outlets will run with that, especially given the fact of what's happened with football/basketball players recently. There's no way that parents, in particular, won't have a bad perspective of UT. You might be right about Hamilton, but I just can't believe that if ALL of this stuff is true, that Hamilton was completely in the dark.

Yes ... netted revenue by taxing ticket holders excessive fees to keep your season tickets ... is that the revenue you say this goober brings in???

Especially considering Fulmer wasn't going anywhere else.

I specifically remember Mike Hamilton saying that he was putting his job on the the line with the hire of Lane Kiffin ... well, it didn't work out Mike and YOU'RE FIRED!

Don't forget starting to charge students for tickets...even though they pay a fee in their tuition for tickets whether or not they actually attend any games for any sport...

I personally don't mind paying more if it gives us the best facilities and best coaches and good teams. Although lately it has been difficult justifying the $1500 a year I spend on tickets when I can scalp better tickets in front of the stadium for $15/ticket. I keep telling myself it will be worth it when we're good again.
