The All things Lane Kiffin Car Accident Thread (merged)

Yes ... netted revenue by taxing ticket holders excessive fees to keep your season tickets ... is that the revenue you say this goober brings in???

Look around the country at equivalent programs an report back to me if you still think UT is out of line with the norm.

I specifically remember Mike Hamilton saying that he was putting his job on the the line with the hire of Lane Kiffin ... well, it didn't work out Mike and YOU'RE FIRED!

I've read your four posts and it looks like 75% of them are anti Mike Hamilton.

I will put my position in the open: I think Mike Hamilton is a good AD.

Convince me otherwise.

Don't forget starting to charge students for tickets...even though they pay a fee in their tuition for tickets whether or not they actually attend any games for any sport...

Every major program does that now. Has to do that to be competitive. I believe South Carolina is the only SEC team that doesn't charge for tickets now. That said, the new online ticketing system is awful, and there are better ways to go about it.

Common place at almost ever SEC school. I believe we were the last or next to last to start this policy.

Where would the NC team be if Mal Moore had gotten fired after all his coaching blunders. People make mistakes, especially when they are conned by sociopaths. You can't fire them over one mistake when the body of work has been overwhelmingly positive. I remember how many people in this town were upset we hired bruce instead of bobby knight. That turned out pretty good for us...

That is kind of like the Government taxing the money you make then taxes the very same money when you spend it. Also kind of like how you pay for home owners insurance even though you may never use it. Life is not always fair. Deal with it.

Then up the fee by ten bucks (times 25,000 undergrads + 6k graduate students) and you bring in more total money...don't charge for the tickets and charge the fee...

I'm not talking about fair. I'm talking about PR. Up the fee a few bucks, nobody notices...make students pay for tickets and fewer show. But, with attendance below 100k/game for the first time in a decade +, who's gonna notice if the empty seats are student seats or just regular seats...

Hamilton a good AD??? Hiring an unethical, unproven, lying, 34 year-old coach that rides on the coattails of his "daddy" and pays him a million+ dollar salary? What kind of an AD does something stupid like that? A BAD ONE!! MIKE HAMILTON ... YOU'RE FIRED!

So I gather that the reason you are upset is the Kiffin hire?

Or you could charge an activities fee that gives students access to sports not named football as well as access to other activities and then charge the ones that want to go to the football games for attending the game instead of charging the kid that i studying in the library during the game for part of your ticket.

To be fair to Hamilton, he hired Kiffin for his dad, not for Lane. And his dad was more qualified than a lot of head coaches at major programs. Hamilton had no way of knowing that Kiffin was a liar, aside from Al Davis' warnings. For some reason, Hamilton loves to go for unproven coaches. It worked well with Pearl, but it hasn't worked well for Todd Raleigh (from Western Carolina?) and Lane Kiffin. Hopefully Dooley is more of a Pearl than a Kiffin.

I got ya.

Not upset just because of the Kiffin fiasco (which is MORE than enough for Hamilton to be dumped), but a string of events that has gone on for several years. There are MASSIVE LOANS that have had to be taken out because of things he has done and most people have no idea how much money UT has had to borrow to pay off coaches that Hamilton has fired, AFTER he gave them extensive contracts ... makes no sense. What about the 300,000 bonus Hamilton gave Monte Kiffin for staying at UT until December 31st?? RIDICULOUS!

I would think the jury is still out on Raleigh. He had to kick some to the curb and deal with the APR limits. I would think that he will have to make some marked improvement this year, or else MH will not have many options but to go in another direction.

Also, it will not get much mention and most people won't care, but MH did hit it big with the hiring of the Tennis coach. A lot of people were mad that he hired the Winterbotham over Woodfruff (former AA and pro). Since then, they have risen near the top of the NCAA and will be a strong favorite to capture the 'AA title this year.

I think it has to do with more than just hiring someone who is unproven. In the case of Lane Kiffin, he had something to achieve, likely showed a lot of energy in the interview, and presented MH with a game plan (which appears to have come from his years at USC).

LK had everything to gain here and nothing to lose. His reputation was on the line and he said he would be the hardest working coach in the NCAA. I don't know that you argue with that. Add to that the added incentive of staff and it was a good get.

Everyone knew he would bolt at the first chance for the NFL or the job at USC. Nobody thought it would come after a year. I think everyone knew the divorce would be dirty, I just don't think anyone could foresee it would come after a year.

Enlighten me. What MASSIVE LOANS have been taken out that are out of the ordinary?

Who has he fired that you feel was unjust?

It is beginning to look like the contracts offered to the Kiffin clan were suspect. Low buyout to Lane. The bonus to Monte.

I kept hearing that Monte Kiffin was a genius ... might have been a nice man, but not a genius. And he certainly couldn't do much of anything with that son of his. Lane couldn't coach his way out of a paper sack. If Hamilton hired Lane to get Monte, why were they paying Lane so much money???? Doesn't make sense to me. What in the world was Mike Hamilton thinking when he negotiated the outrageous salaries for this group of weasels he brought to our university? He should be ashamed of himself.

So far your argument is weak. The salaries were not out of line with other staffs.

Must be referring to the $9 million reserve that the AD has established or the $ 6 million in direct support to the University.

One of the few self supporting athletic departments in the country. Must be run by an imbecile.

Loans, or just money given to the University in the form of tax deductible donations by those loft-renting boosters we all keep mentioning?
