The Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes

UNC could sure use him though. Currently lacking anyone that can consistently get their own shot/get to the rim.

Yeah, I guess Hairston is the closest thing we have. It comes as no surprise, but I have to admit that I was hoping for Bullock to stay and us to add Wiggins. That team would have been nasty. Still, if we can add Wiggins, I look for us to compete for the title next year. Without him, I think the team is good and possibly even a Final Four contender, but my confidence would be greatly strained.

Wiggins is still another wing player, which Carolina has lots of wing players, but he'd be the most well-rounded by far.

PG-Paige
SG-Hairston
SF-Wiggins
PF-McAdoo
C-Meeks

I could really see Meeks starting at C if his conditioning will allow for it.

Meeks is talented but seems like a project, as most of our big men recruits have been here in the last couple years. I see one of James, Johnson, or Hicks getting the nod before Meeks. Maybe not two years down the line, but for this year. I think Hicks is a PF as well, but if he can play, then I'd imagine Roy will put him at the SF or even C position. I think this year might have taught Roy not to worry to much about position and his conventional tactics.

I reeealllly don't think they're a Final Four contender as currently constructed, unless Meeks is the next Dwight Howard.

Jackson Simmons isn't a wing player. He plays on the block. So they really are lacking players on the wing

And Tokoto probably won't see any noteworthy action until at least his junior or senior seasons given his performance this past year, unless he unexpectedly improves.

Can you guys think of a player that has caused this much buzz in the last several years, in terms of his college choice? OJ Mayo comes to mind, but this is pretty crazy.

I understand. I have the same concerns as well. I think though if you assume what should be the obvious: McAdoo, Hairston, and Paige will improve, plus what can't be any worse play from James and Johnson, along with Hicks, Meeks, and Britt, then I think the team should perform at a higher rate than last year. Then again, they might basically be the same as last year. One way or the other, they will need to find a way to fill the vacuum Bullock left behind. I think between Hairston's improved play, McDonald's increased minutes, and even a slight improvement in the bigs, Bullock should be compensated and hopefully improved upon. We'll see though.

Best I can think of is Oden, and we all know how that turned out. Not to sound like a Carolina homer, but I still remember watching a Lawrence North v. Poplar Bluff (I think) game on ESPN that year that pitted Oden v. Hansbrough. Even then I thought, wow, this Hansbrough guy looks better than Oden. Analysts disagreed, but we see were that got them.

From what I'm hearing, Seventh Woods might be the next big thing. Maybe even Lebron-level, though I have not heard that exact comparison yet. I think he is either 2015 or 2016. Watch his YouTube stuff, if you haven't already. It is mind-blowing. I'm pretty positive the kid is a UNC fan, and the one year rule will probably be changed (thanks to you guys; haha!) in time for him not to come to UNC and benefit us for a change, but, then again, I have to remind myself of John Wall. Carolina native, lifetime Carolina fan, and Kentucky basketball player. Roy was scared away though from those around Wall, from what I gather.

Who do they have? I can only think of Hairston, McDonald, Tokoto and that Jackson Simmons dude.

I guess it was more of a "had" prior to Bullock leaving and Strickland graduating. Wiggins would definitely fill a need.

Based on the Youtube videos, Seventh Woods, as a 14 year old freshman, might have been the best guard in the NCAA this year - probably even better than some in the Association. The kid is insanely good.

It's amazing video. I've not seen anything quite like it.

I've been hearing the buzz about Woods in the last few days. He's 14, IIRC.

Thanks for that tidbit. KSR is definitely a bastion of sports objectivity as well. I read that one piece on there the other day about their justifications for why he might go to each school, and you'd have almost thought Kentucky was the only basketball program in history to not only have a winning tradition but lead players to the NBA. These are all homer sites, and as bad and pathetic as that Keeping it Heel article was, every fan media site chunks out the same crap from time to time.

Was definitely surprised to see that piece.

I follow that blog on Twitter, so I read a lot of their stuff. After reading that yesterday, I thought to myself "Why do I waste my time reading this guy's garbage." I was glad to see at least a semi-apology today along with the removal of the article.

The video was insane, but people need to calm down saying stuff like this. From what I've seen, he may not even be the best player in his class, and definitely isn't a no-brainer #1 like Wiggins is.

It depends on how you define the term "contender." I think they'll absolutely be better than last year, but I'd be surprised to see them in the Final Four.

The analysts were right; Oden just couldn't stay healthy.
