The Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes

Don't see why they shouldn't aim for 40-0. We had a team go 38-2. Both of those losses were big upsets at the time (Indiana: on a last second three, and Vandy: Playing their way into the tourney). Those losses, especially the Vandy one, probably motivated UK to play harder. But I don't see why 40-0 is out of the question with next years team.

Dear therealUT,

You were correct; I was very wrong. Andrew Wiggins selected Kansas over Kentucky, though the jury is still out as to whether this is indicative of a severe impediment in Wiggins' cognitive abilities.

In any event, my apologies. I look forward to beating you should you progress far enough to face Louisville in the 2014 NCAA tournament.

Best,

This is ridiculous, and the source makes it all the more perplexing.

I'm not sure which makes less sense:
a) the notion that choosing Kansas to play basketball is not only a bad one, but represents a problem with his cognitive abilities
b) a UofL fan very vocally saying someone is making a bad choice if he goes somewhere besides UK

As if KU is a bad school or anything for basketball. Really man?

Certainly goes to show that I can make an unbiased assessment regarding a basketball prospect.

But, who knows, maybe Wiggins will be content with a Sweet 16 ring.

Wow, win a national title and all sense goes out the window?

In the past decade, KU has made it to the Final Four three times and the Elite Eight six times.

In case you were wondering, that is more Final Four and Elite Eight appearances that UK. If you were still wondering, KU has more Final Four and Elite Eight appearances in the past decade than Louisville has in the past twenty-five years.

Also three national title game appearances in the last decade for KU (and one national title).

Choosing between UK, UNC, and KU, there was really no "bad" choice for Wiggins. And, while KU may not be the front-runner for the National Title this upcoming season, the players on that team certainly ought to be expecting to win it all (just as UK's players should).

The Carmelo year wasn't exactly in the past decade, if by decade you mean the last 10 seasons. But that only matters if you're picky.

One of the more frustrating nights as a college hoops fan. Collison and Heinrich combined to miss almost 20 free throws...guys were both near the 90% mark for the season.

Good ole Billy Clyde.

Roy's bad coaching. I jest, I jest. Quite frankly, I don't give a **** who the best coach is. The move worked out for both parties involved.

Tubby really disappointed me. Should have gone Final four multiple times with the seeding and teams he had. Bad luck and big upsets really hurt us. I remember Bogans being hurt and us losing in the second round. I remember us losing to Mich. St in the Elite 8, getting upset by UAB in the second round. Tubby just never clicked during the post season imo.

Wiggins didn't make a bad decision imo. If he went to FSU, then maybe. But no way KU is a bad choice with the talent they'll have and the coach, Bill Self.

Well played... I definitely agreed with Ol Roy that night.. Good pick up with Pinson this week.

Hinrich was actually 1-1 for the game on FTs.
Collison was 3-10 though.
Graves and Langford missed five each, and the team shot 12-30.

So, the memory of missing nearly 20 FTs is accurate, but only for the team total.
But, it wasn't Hinrich's fault, unless you want to shift the focus to his 6-20 performance from the field.

Thanks. Just bad recall. Either way, the team shot 40% from the line, missed 18 free throws, and lost by 3. Had they merely shot 60% (still well below their season average of 71%), that game probably goes to overtime (six point differential, but one would also have to factor in Syracuse responding).

Syracuse came out on fire in the first half, specifically McNamara. KU had no answer. Tried to play out of a hole, and could never fully dig themselves out. Again, it was a long and frustrating night.

2014 class is looking nice

Yes, it is. I hope we can add Vaughn. All indications were that he was set to commit a few weeks back, but his parents made him wait. We'll see what happens now, especially with the Pinson commitment. Speaking of the Pinson commitment, you have to wonder how this might help with 2016 Harry Giles (will be number one overall). The two both play on CP3 AAU team, I'm pretty sure, and seem like good friends.

Thanks! 2014 could be very good classes for both UNC and Duke, provided you all get some combination of Okafor, Jones, or Winslow. I'm trying not to jump the gun, but 2016 is going to be a really interesting in-state (well, including South Carolina) recruiting year. All indications are that the Carolinas alone could supply a national title caliber team (like maybe 2 or 3 guys who will be top 5 and a few more who will be top 15-30. It will be interesting seeing UNC and Duke (and of course, Cal) battle it out for those guys.

Agreed. I still think Dean Smith is a liar and a knave, though.

Well, he may be, but the man also did a lot to help integration in the South. I can't say it wasn't completely mercenary, but, then again, Rupp and others could have done the same thing and didn't.

Rupp? Wasn't he the first to have a black player in the SEC? And he said he would have recruited one earlier if he thought the player was good enough iirc.
