England doesn't make it out the group. They are a nightmare right now. The big Swede will carry them to the knockout stages.

I know ranking fullbacks highly is passé but I think lahm should be top ten.

Also agreed about lewandoski, I'm looking at doing a euro fantasy manager and lewandoski might be a sleeper pick for striker, he's quality and polands only option for scoring. And in a weak group.

Looking at the list, I'm laughing at the thought of taking Zlatan Ibrahimovic on my team over Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Top 40 Players of Euro 2012

What does everyone think about this list?

1. Rooney and Xavi are too high.
2. Where the **** is Lewandowski?
3. Thomas Muller might be the most overrated player in the world.

I'm not seeing who their #1 is. I'm guessing it's CR, since I don't see him anywhere else on the list.

Agree with you about Muller. He's one of my favorite players with Bayern and DFB, but he's not top 20, maybe not even top 40. A great passer, a pretty smart player, but not particularly fast or otherwise physically gifted.

Lewandowski is awesome. After watching him with BVB and the Polish team, I don't see how you can not rate him top 40, if not 20. I'd trade Gomez for him in a heartbeat.

At the international level, I would put Miroslav Klose in there before Gomez. Klose is the starter, and has consistently performed well at that level.

Maybe it's my dislike for Robben showing through, but I don't rate him top 10. Maybe at one time, but he's not the same player he was 3 years ago.

Rooney is too high, but England has to have their hero. lol

All in all, I'm wondering what their criteria are. Are they basing it on their performance in international or club competition?

Prediction time!

Group A: Russia

Group B: Germany

Group C: Spain

Group D: France

Final: Spain v Germany, with Germany dethroning the defending champs.

A:Russia, Poland
B:Germany, Netherlands
C:Spain, Italy
D:France, England

Final: France vs Germany, Germany wins.

Poland I can see because their group sucks outside of teh Rooskis, and if they can figure out a way to get decent service to Lewandoski then they could pull it out.

Also, if France and Germany both win their groups and win in the quarters, they would meet in the semis.

But I just don't see the French as on par with the Germans, Dutch and Spanish right now.

Poland making it out of the group and France to the finals are some VERY ballsy picks. gl with that

Poland is not that bad. Outside of the favorites, they're the team I wouldn't want to play especially since they're hosting. Plus that's a pretty weak ass group.

France will surprise some people. I don't think they'll make the final though.

I think your plus is the stronger point with Poland, that group is frankly pretty terrible. I still like Czech Republic to come out second because I think we'll see some heroic **** from Cech, but wouldn't be surprised to see Poland make it.

I was actually just guessing without any research whatsoever. I am a club fan over international and do not keep up with this side of the game as much.

However, I still think the French team can surprise some people if they play together.

The French side will have the most talent on the pitch outside of Germany and Spain. I think they're pretty close, talent-wise, to the Netherlands but I think the Dutch are a better team by a pretty big margin right now.

Groups B and C will be a lot of fun to watch. Group A sucks. Group D is a list of teams that I'll root against and Ukraine.

Still more of a show me situation to me. I think nasri, benzema and hugo lloris are all solid but I just can't bring myself to buy into france.

So for the match tomorrow, was curious of the Antiguan side, looked through their roster, and they do have a couple players who have been floating between the League Championship and PL. The one of note who has been getting caps recently is a CDM named Mikele Leigertwood who has 230 some odd combined apps for Crystal Palace, QPR and Reading.

If this isn't 4, 5, 6, 7 to 0, I'd be disappointed.

In regards to EURO, I'll be pulling for Poland. No reason really, just want to see the host do well. After that, I'll go with Germany or Holland

Amazing short doc on OTL today about FC Start (Dynamo Kiev) of Ukraine against an elite German side during WWII. They beat the Nazis best team and stood up to the Germans and were massacred for it.

Yeah, saw that before church on Sunday. I love me some history and when I find things linked to sports, even better. I can't imagine the life of those guys...

Playing Euro Manager on ESPN...

GK - Neuer
D - Lahm, Kadlec, Ashley Cole, Chiellini
M - Iniesta, Xavi, Ozil, David Silva
F - van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo

GK IMO is a coin flip between Casillas and Neuer.
D - Feel pretty good about this, Lahm is obvious, I feel good about Cole and Chiellini. Kadlec has 8 goals in 34 caps, so if scoring is anything like fantasy, that could be worth a lot of points.
M - This is where I'm having trouble. There are many, many great choices out there. I had the pointer hovering over Sneijder, Nani, Ribery, Robben, Muller, Schweini, even Modric (homerish, I know)
F - I think that's pretty obvious as well. Ronaldo and van Persie are clearly the two best forwards in this Euro, IMO.

Thoughts?

Cech is still the goalie I'm going with at this point. His work in the penalty shootout of the CL Final was nothing short of remarkable. He dove in direction that the ball was kicked on all 5 of Bayern's PK's. He obviously didn't save them all, but going the right way 5 out of 5 times is something I've never seen before. But Neuer and Casillas are good options as well.
