Serious question... I have noticed that Soccer is making strides in the US, for whatever reason, but why is the EPL the flagship series? Shouldn't the MLS be the headline league? And aren't the leagues in Spain and Germany better than the EPL anyway in terms of quality? Just wonder why the EPL seems to be the biggest league.

Compared to the big European leagues, MLS is extremely second rate. As for why the EPL is the flagship, while the top Spanish and German sides are as good or better than the best the EPL has to offer, in terms of overall depth, the EPL is the best league in the world. La Liga and the Bundisliga are effectively two or three team team leagues and after that there is a massive dropoff.

Alright. I've decided to give this EPL thing a shot this season. The problem is, I know I won't ever take an interest if I don't have a certain team to root for. On the NBC Sports site, they have a somewhat tongue-in-cheek side finding tool. It says I'm a Chelsea fan. I know they're one of the big dogs, so I fear if I choose them as my team, that makes me a front runner, a la all the Bama fans in Murfreesboro. What do you all think?

Go with Liverpool. Historically, they are the most prestigious EPL. They've really hit the rocks since their Miracle in Istanbul in 2005. Turning into a young squad with the players Rodgers, the manager, has brought in.

At least Berby and Modric showed up for training near the end.

Small consolation prize: Looks like the Lamela deal just might go through.

the gunners get the W! intense/fun game. top of the standings now:

Liverpool 3 3 0 0 3 9
Chelsea 3 2 1 0 3 7
Man City 3 2 0 1 5 6
Arsenal 3 2 0 1 1 6
Stoke 3 2 0 1 1 6
Tottenham 3 2 0 1 1 6
Man Utd 3 1 1 1 2 4

Just in case anyone else is keeping up, that's now 270 minutes that this pathetic excuse for a team Spurs are fielding have gone without scoring a goal in the run of play. Thank God for the two PK's, otherwise they'd be sitting on two points right now.

You kidding? Again, give it time. The transfer window isn't even closed yet. It was today, yet again, a new look spurs side against the same gooners that went on that run to fourth last year. Eriksen is incoming, Lamela will be starting soon. Both replacing problem areas in the midfield. Also chiriches.

I'm still disappointed in today's result, but unless arsenal blows up the last day of transfers, I still feel confident that spurs have the fourth best side in EPL.

Like you I have confidence they'll get better, but their play so far has been embarrassingly bad. Even though its a lot of new faces, three games without scoring a goal is pretty weak.

Ozil to Arsenal?

Would be the best signing of the window.

I don't even buy that a little bit. He's not a striker, and he's not a rock in the midfield. Those are what arsenal need, and Özil is neither.

Will arsenal now have more talent? Sure. Does it fill any of their needs? Hell no.

I do agree. It's like if you sign a beast 5 star player, but he didn't feel the needs your team had left. It still excites the fans and makes the team better, but there are still some holes to be filled.

As an arsenal fan I like the Ozil signing, but I'm hoping for another addition. I've seen some rumors about a GK, but we'll see

When you sign the best attacking midfielder in your league, it's a good signing. They needed some serious creativity in the squad as well.

It didn't address their other needs. You are right. If Giroud can stay healthy, they will be fine.

I think they will end up molding their formation into a 4-1-2-1-2-ish formation. They will rotate cazorla, ozil, rosicky, wilshere, and chamberlain in the front 3 midfield spots and rely on arteta, ramsey, and flamini for cover in the defense. Arteta and Ramsey being available for attacking as well. That will leave Podolski, Giroud, Walcott, Sanogo to rotate and move around up front. To be honest, I don't think this is a bad squad at all and will really surprise people. Signing Ozil changes everything, and it was the reason Mourinho changed his mind about Ba. He didn't see Arsenal as a title threat, and then quickly changed his mind.

They needed a Ba-ish striker and another CB, but there is always January. Anyone thinking that a Tottenham squad full of first year premier leaguers will top this Arsenal team are a joke. They can't score and Soldado got punked by Koscielny the whole game.. Everyone they bought doesn't make up for what they lost in Bale.

Because they speak English and don't suck.
