The Association Football Thread

I hate FA cup weekends, always seems like such an afterthought, especially at this point in the season when things are really getting good for the league.

A couple rounds ago, I agree. But now we're pretty well down to big time Cup ties as well. If Everton are going to take anything of value from this season, the FA Cup is probably their best shot. Things have fallen into place nicely for them.

Barcelona and City both coming off impressive results before their clash on Tuesday. Barcelona might have played their best game of the season today, although it was against Rayo Vallecano.

Cannot wait for CL action. Best tournament in sports, in my humble opinion. Thinking Arsenal is going to be a tough matchup for us without Ribery and Schweinsteiger questionable, but thankfully we have depth this year.

Thought I just read Scheinschteiger is back.

He is. But hasn't had much match time. Looks like Bayern is working him in off the bench. Losing Ribery and now Shaqiri is going to hurt for Arsenal but Goetze will prob step on just fine. Crazy how deep we are.

Certainly not at full strength, but even Bayern Munich's second team is quality.

Speaking of which, either of you guys plan on making the trip to Portland for MLS all star against BM this summer? Beers on me.

Would love to but a trip to Steamboat is taking up all of my extra cash.

I would love to. Everything I've heard about Portland makes me want to take a trip.

Julian Green is going to practice with the USMNT soon. Kid's a talent and I'm hopeful that Klinsmann can get a commitment from him.

All kinds of drama surrounding Olivier Giroud. Was left out of the starting lineup for today's FA Cup game with Liverpool after admitting to cheating on his wife this morning.

Absolutely mind boggling how a PK was awarded for the first challenge in the box but Oxlade-Chamberlain's pile driving hit on Suarez wasn't given.

Disappointing result, but it may play into their hands in the long run. Having nothing but those 12 league games to worry about while the three teams ahead of them in the title race have league, FA Cup and CL to worry about will be nice.

Only silver lining I can think of after this game. Plenty of chances to convert. Have to start making those down the stretch.
