The Association Football Thread

With the way the TV contracts have worked out, I don't think ESPN will have any soccer rights after Euro 2016. Hopefully after that either NBCSN or Fox will hire Darke. He's about as good as they come.

The BBC broadcast is better than the network and surprisingly matches up good with the tv action

Hull has Arsenal playing a slow game and it's playing into Hull's hands. Things looking good for Hull who leads 2-1 at the Half.

Hull gave it a good fight, but too much talent on the pitch for Arsenal. Thought the Atletico Madrid/Barcelona match was really good as well. Good for Atletico. Nice to see a team other than Real and Barca winning La Liga.

Bayern Munich(my favorite German club) won the German Cup by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0. It was Bayern Munich's 2nd straight championship.

Cambridge United and Gateshead play in the Conference Final in Wembley and the winner will be promoted to the Football League. Go Cambridge United

yeaa go gunners! thought it might get embarrassing after giving up those 2 quick goals (to Hull), but arsenal pulled it out and walked away with a trophy!

I had to look at it there also. I listened to the Arsenal-Hull match on BBC World Service online. It was vastly superior to the American coverage.

Cambridge United won 2-1 and will be promoted to the Primier League next season.
So which rung of the football league do they start on? 8 levels from Premier? I'm not familiar with the format once you get past the fourth tier (leauge 2). I remember learning a little bit about the tiers when there was talk of Celtic and Rangers playing their way into the premier league years ago.

All I know is the BBC said Cambridge United would be promoted.I don't know the League structure very well.

Manchester United has hired a new coach they hired Netherlands team coach Louis Van Gaal. It's the first time a non-British coach has coached Manchester United.

Van Gaal's time at Bayern was a mixture of failure and some successes. Not enough successes in the end. We'll see how he does an ManU.

Not a terrible pick, certainly better than Moyes. LvG helped build the Bayern team that won the CL, and went to a couple of CL finals with Bayern. His problem was that he could never get over the hump, and that Dortmund dominated him toward the end of his time at Bayern. At the very least, I think he will build United into a contender again.
