I haven't kept up this year, but with CFB and racing season starting to wear down, can someone give me some EPL and CL cliff notes?

EPL is pretty damn wide open. No one has taken control of anything. Chelsea looked like they would but have been absolutely terrible the past month. And Bolton is freaking competing for a CL spot, probably won't get it, but a great EPL season with it being wide open.

Bayern is struggling in league play lately and were well in the CL until the Roma breakdown in the second half. Need to step it up boys.

terrible move by fifa both on and off the pitch

average july temp in qatar is 115 degrees.

ill be interested to see how FIFA will handle someone having a heatstroke in a game or worse backing a country that supports Iran's nuclear program.

How much do you think the bribe cost Qatar for the WC?

Size of Ct
Population of Philly
AVERAGE temp if 115 during WC months
One of the worst anti-terrorist counties in the middle east
Iran supporter
No booze(for now)
Stadium pipe dreams
Air conditioning pipe dreams
Awful team that has never qualified for WC

Did I miss anything?

The highest level of live soccer I've ever actually been to was the ACC tournament when I was a kid.

I've been pretty fortunate to see some good soccer living in Salt Lake City. RSL is one of the better MLS teams and I've seen them play Everton, Boca Juniors, Santos, I've seen 2 RSL playoff games, etc*. I also saw the MLS All-Stars play Everton last year. My bro-in-law's Dad is some North American regional official over amateur soccer and he always hooks us up. We even went to the after party in Park City for MLS All-Star game and I was rubbing shoulders with C. Blanco, F Montero, Saha, P Neville, etc.

*but I didn't get to see them play Real Madrid...Damn it!

Watched many games in Munich. Would love to make it to the Euro or World Cup one day.

Going to Munich next year, probably August so I can catch a Bayern Munchen home game at Allianz. Can not wait.

On subject of World Cup...this reeks of corruption. Qatar has nothing except lots of money. Why the hell would anyone want to go there?

Hate to say it, but I agree.

I think we have to be huge favorites for 2026.

They're saying China is a favorite for 2026 and that it will likely return to Europe for 2030. Dammit, I'll be an old man before the WC returns here.

On a positive note, am going to Brazil for 2014, even though I imagine it as a giant armpit with some nice spots thrown in. This should be Germany's best chance at a WC.

China isn't eligible for 2026 and I think think that they want South America to have it for 2030 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the first tournament. That leaves North America and Africa for 2026, and Africa just had a team host.

I've always wanted to see a top flight soccer match in person. With today's developments, that dream has been put on hold until at least 2026. I'll be 42 by then. This really blows. Like they were saying on the radio earlier today, Cam Newton's father would look at this situation and think that FIFA was a dirty organization.

Russia in 2018 isn't much better of a choice. Does FIFA just look at a world map, identify the crappiest countries on earth and then award them the WC? With South Africa, Brazil, Russia and Qatar being the recent choices, I'm beginning to think that's how it's handled.

Tough blow to the US. I can see the US losing to a country with a history of soccer success in the world cup but to lose to a country whose sole presentation was based on wishful thinking was insulting though I hear that Qatar is a pretty amazing place.
