The Association Football Thread

and they sell out quite regularly too

Just the lower bowl right (I say just but that's like 45k).

It was sad when RSL played in Rice-Eccles football stadium. It seats like 45K and they'd put 15k fans in there. It was just pathetic. With the new stadium being seating for 20K it's totally changed the game atmosphere. It's so much more fun.

idk for sure, but ya i think it's only the lower part...still a very impressive turnout for a soccer game in the US tho

People can dog the MLS all they want, but the playoffs are always fun to watch. I'm a Crew fan, so luckily, I usually get to follow good soccer all season long with them.

The MLS is getting better. RSL handles themselves well in friendlies against elite league teams. I saw them beat Everton with my own eyes (Everton wasn't sitting people, and this was like 3 years ago when they were decent) and RSL drew with Boca Juniors.

I've always wanted to pick a team, but I just can't get behind any of them. Seattle is probably the only team in the league that I'm a little more than lukewarm on.

Catch a timbers home game next season. The atmosphere has a pretty college football like feel, and iirc the smallest field in MLS. The timbers play 100mph at home.

The thing with Gerrard is whether or not when and if he does come back, will he be the same player? I always hate seeing a great player pass their prime, but you have to wonder if he is going to be able to make that impact anymore or if he is ever going to get better.

Well considering he's only come back for one game and did this
Steven Gerrard goal vs Man Utd - YouTube

Im gonna believe he's still close to the same player. Its not like he is too old to recover from his groin injury, he's been having an infection problem. This time on his ankle

Guess you just missed all the players coming back from injury part... Oh, and still missing our main midfield catalyst. I have a feeling you'll pick up reading comprehension one day, but I just don't think it will be today.

Also, guess you didn't watch the game because even rvp knows he didn't earn man of the match until the last 10 minutes. Aaron Ramsey made Chelsea his *****. Seeing the arsenal reserves hold liverpools first team scoreless for 65 minutes was all I needed to see to prove my feelings on their squad.

Do you not feel like Liverpool's squad has by chance improved since that game as well? With all the new additions is it not hard to see that they weren't in sync yet? Even Andy Carroll is starting to score again.

and you continue this reserve team arguement but apart from Jenkinson and maybe Frimpong who did Arsenal play that you would consider reserve? Even Nasri started that game.

ive only watched the ecuador game and US looked pretty decent with the starting side. there is a tall lanky guy with blonde haur that looked pretty talented. dont remember his name. im a fan of chivas in the mexican club soccer.

Brek Shea is a bright spot, but I think at the moment USA is in trouble. Unless a turn around happens (like say, a new coach), I think Mexico will finish ahead of us in the WC qualifiers.

I saw the result from today, and I have to apologize.. You are totally right and I have completely underestimated Liverpool. My bad, friend.

Depends on who you ask, I guess. But verdict in Germany among some, including German captain Phillip Lahm, is that he just rolls the ball out there and isn't too big on tactics. Perhaps he is good at training though.

Not for us. I think he's still trying to coach like he's over Germany or Munich, and we don't have that type of personnel.

"He just rolls the ball out there and isn't too big on tactics" might be spot on. And he could get away with it when he had those powerhouse teams, but not here. How else do you explain two goals in five games, against that kind of competition?

RSL vs Galaxy tonight at 8 (MT) for Western Semifinals. Galaxy is a better team than us, but we match up with them very well. Our 2 center backs are banged up and questionable to start. Not sure we have a chance if either one is missing.

i like what i am reading in this thread. its never been my m.o. to pick a heavyweight team to follow but i like L.A.

Trying to work in new players and see what happens. Friendlies are the best time to fool around and see what you have..

IMO that doesn't excuse being shut out by Costa Rica and Belgium. I guess we'll see this Friday where we stand more clearly though; I assume Klinsmann will put his best foot forward against France.

You would think so..

Also, don't completely sleep on Belgium. They have a pretty good squad.

they took 25 shots and still drew 0-0. The goals will come. Or Tevez will score them in January :)

and what a surprise RVP plays, scores and Arsenal win. He comes off the bench and they draw a French team (Arsene's bread and butter)
