Infante will end up playing more games this year than he has in about five years. With Chipper probably retiring it makes me wonder if he could possibly be a stop gap starter for a year. He's been awfully productive and it would allow Prado to move down in the lineup for more RBI opportunities. If he could be close to this productive for a full season it would be a huge boost to the team.

I like Infante a lot; he's an incredibly valuable player to have because he can play anywhere on the field and he can keep his batting stroke going without having to play every day. But as an everyday player, he'd be one of the worst 3B in the league. I hope that's a last resort.

Agree completely, but if Infante were to play every day next season, it would be at 2B. Prado would move to 3rd. However, with Chippers 13+ mil comin off the books, we better sign somebody.

2B and 3B both look pretty bleak as far as potential free agents this offseason. I'm not seeing any names that really blow my skirt up.

Who has seen Minor pitch? I know he is left handed but is he able to get major league hitters out yet?

On a side note.

i think that this braves team has not peaked yet. A fate that has sunk many brave teams during the streak.

Nobody knows whether ANY pitching prospect -- no matter how good -- can get major league hitters out until you watch them try to do it for awhile. I've been watching baseball for over 30 years, and only once have I ever seen a guy whom you knew immediately was never going to get major league hitters out. His name was something like Mike Busbee (?), he pitched for the Cardinals, and he gave up something like 12 runs in three innings to the Braves in his first start. I think he was back in the minors before the game was over, and I don't know if he ever came back. This was about 15 years ago. Everybody else needs a couple of starts before you know what you've got.

Minor's stats are good. He's supposed to be for real. And if he is, he'll be better than the league-average pitcher that Kawakami represents. But if they're fine to throw a rookie into the rotation in the middle of a pennant race, I sure wish they'd go whole hog and bring Freddie Freeman up.

partial ligament tear, out a few weeks. Is that right?
A little worse than that.

Braves doctors said they would wait a couple of weeks when the swelling and pain subside to decide if Medlen will need Tommy John surgery, which appears likely. Recovery from the surgery generally takes one year.

Bob Davidson made an atrocious call to make it possible.

And shockingly it was not a balk call.

I just saw the highlights. Him signaling foul and not even looking as the ball hits obviously fair about 3 feet from him is one of the worst calls I've ever seen in my life.

That would be the best case scenario. Unfortunately that hardly ever happens with these type injuries. I'd say realistically he's probably at least looking at shutting it down for the year and if he needs Tommy John Surgery, we probably won't see him until at least this time next year.

MLB Network was doing a live look-in and the Marlins announcers went bonkers. He obviously assumed it was going to go foul, and got burned.

What's so crazy about yesterday is a pennant race could be affected by a blatant fair ball and a catwalk.

Him denying that he made the wrong call makes it even worse IMO. He came off as a prick that can do no wrong in the statement he made.

The culture of MLB umpires refusing to ask for help and then being defensive and standoffish about it is pathetic. It's the only major sport where officials don't get together on just about every close call.

Most of the problem umpires are the guys that have been doing it for the last four decades. MLB should clean house and get all the codgers out of there.

Lets start with Joe West.

Getting rid of Joe West, Angel Hernandez, CB Bucknor and Gary Darling would probably cut MLB ejections by 30%.

If the Marlins were playing any other team, this would have been thoroughly entertaining. The announcers lost it completely.

Mid 90s fastball with a good curve and good changeup. Throws strikes.

Looking at that list, I put a feasible (financially) lineup together for next season, but wow we need a RH hitter.

I'd like to sign Carl Crawford for LF, but that's just me. 2B and 3B looked pretty slim. Any chance the RedSox don't pick up Beltre's option?

EDIT: Not that he's a long-term solution, but we don't have a lot of 3B help on the way.

The Braves haven't done a great job of preparing for the end of Chipper's career, that's for sure. I know he was a great player just two years ago, but even then he was 36 and hurt all the time. The Heir Apparent should already be in the system somewhere, but if he is I sure can't find him.
