The "Big Fish" Quarterback Rumor

Call me crazy, but there's no way Richt is going to release anyone to UT

Refusing to grant a release only means that he would have to pay his own way in '09 before he could be put on scholarship in '10. A coach can't stop a player from transferring to a specific school.

I wouldn't want to pay 20,000 or whatever it is for one year if I didn't have to.

Fair enough. I was privy to some inside info that steered me wrong. I generally trust my sources, but the coaches were way too confident that they were going to land Scroggins and I was only echoing their confidence. They missed. I missed. It happens.

I will also point you to this post that I made back in MARCH where I said we wouldn't get Scroggins. I should have stuck with my gut, but one tends to believe the coaches when they say they're going to land a guy and that's exactly the information that I was relayed.

post 55 of the Scroggins thread

I really don't get why you even bring this up in this thread though. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other.

LOL... Sab this is funny. Yeah, if you say one thing and then another... I guess you can say you were right a certain point.

So, how about this. Guys, I believe we caught a big fish. Wait. No, this is a rumor.

So, when we find out what happens. I have documentation to show that I was right somewhere in that sentence!!!

I think there is a lot of pessimism in our fan base. It is sad really. Sam, you seem to be that person right now. But that quote makes it sound as though you were pretty pumped about Scroggins. So, maybe guys Sam was just let down like most of you about the Scroggins deal.

I agree that people should be allowed to speculate though without their comments being referred to as pointless. And when most posts you make in a thread are negative and you tell people their excitement and speculation is pointless, it kind of becomes part of context. Hence the reason this conversation is now about that instead of the an exciting possibility we caught a big fish!!!

regardless of who it is, is there still a consensus that an announcement will be made today?

The guy from the audio clip claimed that his source would know who it is today. If we're to believe him, then the answer to your question is yes.

Can someone explain to me how we know this isn't Nick Lamaison that they were referring to? I could see how it was a JUCO All-American they might have been referring to.

Back, and to the left...

I would think if this is all true, we would hear something before 3PM so it can hit the Prime Time radio and TV shows.

Why would they be teasing a story about something that was announced last week?

If Georgia releases him I guarantee you there will be a stipulation on not playing for SEC teams.

Like I just said, they could not stop him from coming to UT. They could only stop him from being put on scholarship his first year by refusing to grant a release.

The Aaron Murray and Mettenberger posters give me the lulz. A guy in my office keeps telling me we can have one of the two, whichever doesn't win the starting job... Someone better get Richt on the phone and tell him the news.

Tyler Bray
Munchie Legaux
Tommy Rees
Cam Newton
Chase Rettig
Andrew Hendrix
Phillip Sims

I read earlier in the thread that it's not Bray which is surprising. I think getting him is more believable than Sims, Brunetti or Godfrey. I really don't think it's Brunetti or Godfrey. Of the list I just posted, the shortest guy is 6'3 except for Sims who is 6'2. Brunetti is 6'0 and Godfrey 5'11. If the staff goes with an unconventional quarterback to play in a pro style system, I am guessing they are going to be taller than 6 foot. Could be wrong so who knows. Maybe this Big Fish isn't a quarterback. Maybe it's Prater because he is tall and rated high or Milton because he is really tall.

Maybe Chaney has been in Kiffin's ear about the height deal, he had Brees and he is 6'0'' in high heels

Around Noon on Friday

See this just leads me to believe they were talking about Lamaison. Nothing to see here, people. I think you might drive yourselves insane for months trying to figure out who they are talking about when it was Lamaison all along.
